running in oil gone, fresh initial dose of 20/50 oil went into the coupe and it's cooled now too! i also had the temp sender unit put in. the red line is there incase u cant see it, as the cooler is so small.

before pic
i expanded the hole for the cooler it with my dremel. i also had to trim the brass fittings on the sandwich adapter so they could screw in without hitting one-a-nother(a few mm off the lip without losing the lip was enough ). 16mm hose fittings were slightly too big but now its alltogether, it fits very snuggly and tightly.

sweet!

i like the discreteness too, im tempted to put one in myself but still questioning the ability of the stock pump, considering i have oil cooled turbos aswell

i have the adaptor which i guess is the hardest bit to get, what was the cooler worth? i guess getting a second hand one would be dirt cheap

i guess experimenting with a pressure gauge will tell me that

have you noticed much diffrence in oil temp then?, also in pressure?

the stock a15 pump seems to be very good. see bottom of this post for psi details. i figured i would not have much luck finding a higher-flow oil pump so i just went with the stocker.
ill put my shopping list here (docket from repco. double the prices for reg retail cost.)

1 x adaptor-eng.oil cooler 3/4 in x 16 - $49.40
1 x cooler-oil engine 24 plate - $97.55
2 x elbow fittings for cooler - $5.64ea
2 x elbow fittings for adapter - as above
-- get these next 2 from Pirtek or your pref hose outlet.
1.5mtr of heavyduty 16mm hose (i got 300PSI heavy stuff - goes well)
4 x heavyduty hose fasteners

when installing you put the adapter on the spot where your oil filter normally goes, then screw and tighten it on. then put on the oil filter and fasten that on. pipe it all up. start engine and IDLE until u can feel hot oil going through your cooler.

i now get a spot-on reading of oil temp as soon as it pumps back out of the engine. the psi is around 10-30 wait a min ive already said this.
Quote:
still retaining 10-30psi idle and 40-60 above 3000rpms. The oil temperature took a while to warm up but stayed steadily coming out of the motor at 80-90 celcius while highway driving, and 60-80 while city driving.. all with my 4 speed gbox. (3500-4000rpm highway driving)

im also running a Gemini radiator in there, this little cooler is such a perfect fit, just a few mm before the screw for the headlight on one side and a few mm shy of the radiator on the other side. it takes a lot longer for the oil to reach 80 celcius and i havnt seen it hit 90 yet (need to drive more). psi is basically the same as it was without the cooler installed.

looks/sounds like a real neat fit.
whats the purpose/advantages of an oil cooler, aside from the cooling the engine oil, in a street car ???

what im kinda asking is, have you noticed the oil is cooler at running temprature?

or you hadnt taken "before" measurements

basically wanting to know if it's doing it's job cooling the oil

or are you waiting for further testing

cheers bud!

its not the usual for a street 1200 i guess, but i was warned by engine reconditioner and others that high compression, boredout motors warm up oil/water faster and that additional oil cooling is a good idea for the longevity of the engine.
next time i goto orange i will drop in thru Mt Panorama and do a few hot laps (hopefully no cops around) to tell you how the temperature reacts then. i bet it will tell me i need a new water radiator, this gemini one is a bit small me thinks.
the difference from the oil cooler so far is, i notice it is very hard to get upto 90 celcius oil temp, as the cooler helps keep the overall temp down. it also takes longer to warm all the way up (past 50 or so celcius). oil temperature is down in general, it is making a difference.

this is the guage i use, ive also got the water temp and oil pressure of the same guage. they work bloody well for an ebay cost of around 50AU. i had to modify them as they came damaged and the seller could not help me (i had to re-seat the actual guages needle) now they work great, i even tested them up against a digital guage and theyre correct to the degree :)

ive since put a sheet of aluminium attached to the top two bolts holding in the oil cooler. the sheet catches more air coming in thru the grill and pushes it down onto and thru the cooler.
i did this as i recently was able to get my oil temp upto 95-100c after driving it 80-100mph for over 30 mins.. also started using Penrite 20w-60 oil.
