Re: 5-liter 1200 engine compartment At 490 Lbs [223 Kg] ready to run, the Winsdor engine is surprisingly light for an iron V8. By switching to alloy intake & cylinder heads, plus a set of headers, it can be made seriously lighter. By carefully selecting the trans, the weight can be kept down to within realistic limits. Actually, the alloy heads are a really good idea as the iron heads don't flow all that well, particularly on the exhaust side, but the alloy ones do.
These engines, without exhaust, are in fact quite narrow, but add an exhaust that breathes & suddenly it's not so narrow anymore. The real problem with these Ford engines is the length, but if the firewall has to go, then moving it back a bit will help weight distribution. Spending some money on the water pump & its drive can yeild up to 4" [100mm] of length reduction i'm told.

Re: 5-liter 1200 engine compartment I just had my A14 lifters radius ground and an old guy volunteered that they resembled old Ford V8 lifters.

Re: 5-liter 1200 engine compartment I note ther'e no exhaust manifold attached. That would make it a REAL tight fit.
Great straight line power. Just don't turn a corner.
