Photo for evilsim. This was the oil cap I picked up on the weekend. Not sure what the sticker is meant to represent. A red elephant ??? The guys had heaps of NOS Datto bits for sale.

 Re: Oil Cap
Ah, the famous "Elephant oil cap". What's up with that elephant?

 Re: Oil Cap
OK, did some checking.

Note that the elephant is in a Datsun symbol outline.

I can't see the words in the photo too clearly, but I think the bottom text says:Quote:
工レフイントオイルを注入してさい
which translates more or less to:Quote:
Elephant Oil Fill Occasionally
The Nissan JDM caps say "Nissan Motor Oil Fill Occasionally".

Also, I found this discussion:Quote:
One has Japanese script around the outside of "OIL", the "Elephant" cap, and the "710" cap is peculiar to Australia
...
Nissan's "Elephant" brand oils and fluids were indeed named after successes in the East African Safari Rally
...
It seems that there are at least two varieties of "Elephant" cap.

One is made to be used with a Valve cover that has a completely flat mating surface. This cap has a place for an O-ring to be installed on it's lower sealing surface.

The other variety of "Elephant" cap is made for use with a Valve cover that has a groove in the valve cover for an O-ring to be seated, and the cap's sealing surface is completely flat.

 Re: Oil Cap
DD....thanks...the text you've written looks very close to what's on the cap. That clarifies a few things. I only grabbed it because the guy was giving it away and I hadn't seen one before.
Dan.

 Re: Oil Cap
The guy that's selling them had a list he sent me which covered probably half of what he had. It's mostly 240k, 240z, 260z, skyline and bluebird gear...but all really cheap. I only got the oil cap and a heap of linkages for webers. (will probably never use them)

 Re: Oil Cap
He didn't have any drums but I know someone who might. I'll email you their details. I'll also inlcude the excel spreadsheet that this guy sent me listing the parts. It was mainly engine bits and pieces, diff centres, gearboxes. There were a few dashes there but they were for a 240k i think.
Cheers

Hey DTW,

I'd be interested in taking some weber linkages off of your hands if you don't need them... I ned some for my twins.

Cheers,

TC

 Re: Oil Cap
that cap is very cool! it looks like a (brand new) stock early datsun 1200 cap, like the ones found on front dizzy A-series motors ; but with a neato sticker. sweet purchase DTW.
