Just got these from ztherapy.com.  Too bad the car/engine aren't ready for them yet.   They completely rebuilt SU's, replace everything wearable, new needles, replate everything etc.  Not cheap but fortunately I had several parts to trade in (manifolds, z carbs etc) to give me a good chunk back.  They also did up a custom linkage for my B310, custom heat shield, opened up the manifold balance tube and cleaned it up while it was there.  ALso the carbs are "de-smogged" - though I'm not sure what that means exactly.

Re: rebuilt dual HITACHI SU carbs
I've got the specs at home. I think it just lists a needle number. I'll take a look at it tonight.

Dodgeman - the price list is on the ZTherapy site. Just subtract a couple hundred for my trade in parts and add a couple back for my linkage, manifold and heatshield work :)

Is that an oval port manifold? I have a set of round tops, but they are on a L-series manifold. I have only ever seen round port manifolds for A series engines- no good for my A-15. Anyone know about getting hold of oval port Su manifolds?

 Re: Rebuilt dual HITACHI carbs
ALL of the factory GX manifolds mounted dual Hitachi's & were for the oval port heads.

Lynx list two manifolds for Datsun 1200s that take twin SU carbs, so i'm guessing that one of them might be for oval ports.
The numbers are,
MO42
M137 [typo error now corrected]
I didn't find a picture for either of them, but then, i didn't look too hard.

 Re: Rebuilt dual HITACHI carbs
I talked to a US distributor about the Lynx manifolds. The M42 is shown as being for a Dual Hitachi SU setup but the guy said that was an error but didn't explain what the problem was. The other one I belive is actually M137, not M173. Here's a picture Feral sent me (I added the text since I'm not sure). Notice it has the 4 bolt flange for the carbs so it could possibly fit the SSS/GX 2 bolt 1.5" carbs or possibly also the Z car 1.75" 4 bolt carbs as well. Never seen one up close so I don't really know. The ports look round in the pic and I'm not sure what bolt pattern on the head bolts that would apply too. Don't know enough about A-series heads. I wish someone would order one and give us the scoop!! They're much cheaper in Oz than in the US because Lynx is a US company (i think).

You are absolutely right, the correct number is M137. I will correct the earlier post.

Lynx was started in Sydney in the late 1950's. Click on the 'Company History' link on the left side of the screen.

Heeh now you caught my typo. I meant to say they're cheaper in Oz because they are an Australian company! Oops.

Steve Epperly does excellent work, but the jury is out on whether the flat top hitachi's really need to be desmogged.

Eddie Rattley (RatDat) claims that people just don't know how to adjst them properly.

BTW, Steve Epperly's B210 Race Coupe is a blast to watch, especially when it's lapping SR20 510's and triple mikuni 240Z's ...

 Re: rebuilt dual SU
GOOD SCORE.
These don't look to be SU's, they look like Hitachi's [even better] & these square top versions were made to comply with certain smog rules. I'm guessing that they have had the smog features disabled or by-passed & they have been re-tuned the same as their earlier, pre smog, Round Top brothers.

That nasty gash in your wallet will heal up [eventually] & you will forget all about the price once you go driving.

 Re: rebuilt dual SU
Yeah I know they're not real SU's. I've been in with the Z crowd for too long and they never properly refer to them as Hitachi's. But as of last Saturday my Z car is GONE so I'm a dedicated Sunny freak now (or whatever you call the B110/B210/B310 lineage...)

My real problem will be getting this car past inspection. Since it's a '79 I'm breaking all kinds of rules with the header and dual carbs. If I have too much trouble I may end up having to ditch my B310 and find an old 1200 chassis to put the engine in. Yikes that would be scary since they're so damn hard to find.

If people want to use a generic name for this type of carb, then 'Variable Venturi' would cover both the Hitachis & Skinner Unions.
Maybee I don't want to know what you paid for these, but they sure do look real nice. A quality job.
