Appreciate all the help guys, I'll give something back too.

I have found
Nissan / Datsun Sunny May 1982-Oct 86 Haynes No. 895 - covers the 1498cc petrol engine...

This is the car I got it the engine out of so I might try and buy one.

Also it really isn't much...but here is a bit of a blog about stripping down an A12 engine (my first attempt at a website...)

My Datto A12 engine strip

When I'm done with this A12 (for which I have the Datsun 1200 manual) I'll start requesting the bits of the A15 manual...once I work out what I need.

I really enjoy the Datsun 1200 because of this community we have going.

Look forward to continuing to contribute.

Hi all, long time no post.

My question is...

I have an A15 engine, out of a Sunny wagon, a 1981 I believe, and I would like to spend some time giving it some loving. My problem is I don't have an engine manual for this motor, (I have the Datsun 1200 workshop manual).

My concern is about torque on head bolts, and generally what other differences I can expect from the A12.

Any help is appreciated.

My initial thought is to try and find a copy of the Datsun Sunny workshop manual that included this motor...but it hasn't been as easy as it sounds.

Mildman

I'm embarking on an engine swap this weekend.

An A15 from a Aust Sunny Wagon 1981 I think, into my 1200 Coupe.

I've read the tech sections and search the forums a bit (so I know about the crossmember reinforcements).

My big concern now is about wiring.

Coil, starter, etc...

Should I just cut all these wires to get the engine out of the Sunny, or better yet up to where should I try and save the wiring to make the easiest wire up job in the 1200.

(I hope this info isn't readily available in the forum - I did spend a bit of time looking for it)

Regards,
Mildman

Thanks ddgonzal by the way (I know a bit late)

The info did help out a bit.

I've decided to try the box that is still attached to the A15.

It should handle more torque - and if it is a 60L (which I will check this weekend), there is less gap between 3rd and 4th - which is what is really needed for the race track (for me anyway) as 4th never seemed to pull hard enough with the A12, maybe the power increase will fix that

Extending this thread...are the gear ratios of the A12 4 speed the same as the gear ratios of the a15 4 speed.

Reason I ask is I have the choice between an A12, A15 4 speed. (A15 out of an Aussie Sunny) and the A12 out of a 1200 Coupe.

I was wondering if it was worth the trouble of using the A15 box......

I've got one that's in a 1200 Sedan...but the rear screens are pretty different between the Coupe and Sedan.

I find it unlikely that the Coupe ever had a venetian, a louvre yes.

How does it behave compared with a std LSD?

Does it twin spin?

When you put one wheel on the gravel does the other one still power you out?

Or am I missing the point by being to slack to read the Mazda forum item.

Guess I spend all my free time under cars, or in front of internet forums to get time to even download friends to watch at a later date.

We are part of the new generation of keyboard mechanics.

I thought that was an amusing term for those of us who pick up no small part of our mechanical knowledge from internet forums.

Keyboard mechanic yeah...sounds good.

"Step aside....Mildman here (keyboard mechanic) how can I assist.

Hmm...must be getting late.
