OK my fabricator asked me to find out if anyone ever mated a Datsun 1200 trans to a rotary??? He said before he goes redoing the tranny tunnel find out if anyone has ever used the Datun box. This may seem silly but we know of 3 people using the standard Datsun box in 175HP British Cars and GT4 Datsuns. Couple of notes here; we'll still be using 185/60 rear tires. (note I'm an ex motorcycle road racer so throttle control in not an issue) and he said if the gear box blows like Mt St Helens he'll credit the work towards redoing the tranny tunnel.

So any answers??

If you are talking 56 series boxes, I would say that the 13B would lunch it rather soon. 60 series may hold up longer. But the biggest problem would be that the beelhousing doesnt come off seperately on the datsun boxes. I would be inclinded to mate a madza type bellhousing or aftermarket bellhousing on a splitcase toyota box. the toyota box is narrow and fits in the 1200 tunnel with room to spare.

FIVE SPEED TOYOTA CONVERSIONS
Over the past 30 years we have been producing kits to install Toyota 5 speed overdrive boxes behind a wide
range of engines. These conversions are preferred because of a wide range of reasons. The most popular is to
obtain a box with overdrive to give better driving and fuel consumption out on the open road. Engine revs drop
which reduce wear and tear on your engine.
There are 4 basic types of Toyota 5 speed manual over drive transmissions:
Type 1:
Toyota 2T or 3T split alloy case 5 speed has 7 bolts holding the original bellhousing to the box and the diameter
of the front shaft is 23mm with 21 splines. This box is used in many of our 4 cylinder swaps:
2T has 20 output splines
3T has 22 output splines
Toyota call this their T50 transmission.
