Hey boys/girls

So i have my trusty 1200 ute with my worked A15 on brand new twin 45mm webbers (genuine italian) genie extractors tomei camshaft, yellaterra roller rockers ect. spent a fortune on the little bastard with it only done like 50kms max haha and decided stuff it time to put a turbo on it and make some actual power verse throw more at the A15 for little reward with HP and i essentially already have all the parts for turbo blow through setup with the compression ratio atm should be fine for stock boost levels but anything above 10psi might be abit of a problem

what i have atm for it is a Air Reasearch Garrett GT2860R turbo with custom mandrel bent low mount turbo manifold as the H89 head is ported already will use a stock A15 inlet manifold and ill port match it and i have a DGES 38 weber with a redline adapter that will work fine with a K&N blow through carby top which will work for blow through with having an electric dizzy already just need to limit the mechanical advance have a ford fgxr6 turbo intercooler that with some finese should fit in

The things i need to sort out is fuel setup as currently using mechanical fuel pump will not keep up with just standard wastegate boost of 7psi (0.5 bar)

I am thinking a bosch 70 (VL turbo pump) high fuel rate pump should do the job with a block off plate for the mechanical but as my battery is relocated to the tray of the ute will be abit of a pain wiring not wanting to drill through the cab will run wires through gearbox tunnel and im not sure if i can mount the bosch 70 under the car as it will be out in the weather ... i know its an external pump but if someone can clarify if i could put the pump under the tray would be of great help

i dont think ill bother with a lift pump or a surge tank just run free flow to a turbosmart or some raising fuel rate regulator with a free flow return to the tank... but seeing as i haven't done something like this can someone give me a bit better idea if freeflow will be fine

Will also sort out a t-piece to the oil filter and oil line back to the turbo along with a bulk head fitting drill the sump use the bulkhead for the oil flow back in to the sump with braided lines and AN fittings

Then the hard part of sorting out the dump pipe to connect up to my already 2.5 exhaust

Tuning wise shouldn't be an issue at all just up the accelerator pump jet 2.5-3x the size the main larger change the choke (ventrui) and change the air corrector lower the timing 3-4 degrees should be able to get it running quite easily with some playing with different jetting or ill just drill them out to keep cost right down verse taking it too a tuner or dyno when i can work it out myself

should be able to run around 160hp - 180hp with the supporting mods done to the ute already

With the parts i already have just to sort out intercooler piping and fuel system along with what i have paid for all the other turbo parts i have i think in total it will be around $1500 - $1800 for everything once it is installed which is cheaper than doing big power work to the bottom end on the A15

sounds like you have it fairly well worked out

VL (even non turbo) pump will be fine under the car, plenty of room on passenger side. ute tank is not a bad design in terms of fuel slosh so no surge may be ok if you dont run the tank down too low (keep it 1/3 full at a minimum)

what size is the rear housing on the turbo (.64 or .86) i hope no bigger than .64

weld up the mechanical advance in the dissy

good luck with tune on carbies! that power may be possible with a good tune, with a home "she'll be right" tune i reckon you are pushing your luck

there is a big breather on the top of the fuel tank, you can t-piece your fuel return line into that to complete the return back into the tank

when i blow-through'ing a carby it kept pushing gaskets out, be warned because the carby sits over the exhaust - the fuel leaks on to the hot exhaust. have a fire extinguisher (althought they are near useless) and be vigilant about checking out leaks

I had a similar set up with an A14. mine now has EFI with a full re built bottom end and runs more boost and power. I used a surge tank from the start as they are cheap enough and i left my battery in the front. With my first build before the EFI i had my Holley fitted with Neoprene gaskets and a solid float to stop leaking and collapsing under boost.

You will have fun regardless, the turbo makes a big power difference.
