For about six months, something on my 1200 has been making a knock-knock sound(a sharp double rap) when I drove over bumps.

At first I couldn't tell what it was. It sounded like something on the body was loose. I thought maybe the castor rod bracket was broke, but the suspension felt great. It only happened on rough roads.

It gradually got worse, and I started to worry. But I couldn't find anything loose on the car. It sounded like the exhaust pipe banging against the underside of the car. But it wasn't that. I wondered if some some part in the door was loose. But shaking the door (or the whole car) revealed nothing.

Then it got almost constant, even on smoother roads ... then I was getting worried. I thought maybe something inside was loose, like a brace under the dash. But nothing.

Then last week, after it got bad enough, I rocked the car side to side and located the problem. On the far side of the car, up front.

Any guesses as to what it was? I have since fixed the problem and my 1200 is peaceful driving once again.

my first guess would be severely worn shocks, but I know it'll be something obscure...

I've got the same thing coming from the front- Chalked it down to a knackered shock. Stanza struts & fresh shocks are going in this weekend so I 'll find out I spose.

Loose or broken bumper bar bracket or maybe a loose headlight or horn.
