I'll second the GX cam it works well for a street car for sure, I'm still using the GX cam. Matto - also gasket match the head and manifold and do some mild prot work; the valve seats protrude into the ports something like 2mm, you can smooth this with a file or dremel. As for the flywheel the A12 flywheel is a couple of pounds lighter, somewhere on the sight is the drawing for the 14lb flywheel mod, I used this and find a really nice balance for a moderately tuned engine. Finally the SU carbs are adjustable and can be tuned to suit your needs I.E. richened or leaned by turning the adjusters on the bottom of the carbs.

You need to get the cam followers ground to suit the new cam. cam grind and lifter refacing is about $150 i had two cams done this week. Go mild, you can leave the head standard and you will still see gains. Most cam places will be able to recommend a cam for you. I used Clive Cams in melbourne and he is a legend

I wouldn't go with a mild cam. The GX grind is hotter than the A14 cam, and would be good for the twin on a larger engine (the A14) than the GX (A12)

the gx is mild! depends on what you are comparing it with. Clive cams will be able to advise you or any good camshaft grinder who has experience with a series (as clive does)

Regarding Cam grinds for any Engine that uses a vacuum dependant Carburetor you need to maintain good Vacuum or these will respond poorly to throttle input. By all means go to a different Cam for improved performance what style you will need is a short duration big lift type cam,a good example of these is what Brock used on the group 3 Commodore. The reason why is a longer duration cam extends the inlet valve closing point, this means the piston is further up the bore when the valve shuts resulting in less effective compression, less vacuum draw on the carburetor Piston and poor response. This is the reason why when going to a longer duration cam you also need to increase compression to maintain some low end torque and good engine response In Australia you could talk to CamTech in Sydney, Waggot Cams in Alstoneville north of Newcastle,Ivan Tighe Cams in Brisbane or Wade cams in Melbourne. Wade actually were the suppliers for Nissan sport Australia when running the Bluebird turbo's at Bathurst,I have used Waggot cams with good results and Camttech in Sydney is quite happy to look at doing oddball configurations as well.

cheers guys for the info. so far im going to port the head (just to match the GX hitachi's, use double valve springs which i have seen some GX style ones on ebay ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBa ... agename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT, A10 flywheel as i belive its lighter and fits, A10/A12 front pulley and now i need to work out my cam regrind. gx does sound good and reliable. does anybody think i will make 100hp out of this?
