So I'm in a musical rut...
I've played my metal styles guitar (Pantera, Sepultura, Metallica, Slayer, Sublime, NOFX) etc for 10years now and while I've picked up some new stuff over time I guess I want some inspiration.
So answer the following questions if u like. maybe we'll get a decent list going so we'll never lack inspiration again.
Do you play music? If so....
1) What do you play? (Instrument)
2) Who do you play? (Bands)
3) Whats ur new song at the moment??
I'll go first:
1) Guitar - Electric and Acoustic
2) Punk, Metal, Acoutic chill (Pantera, Sepultura, Metallica, Slayer, Sublime, NOFX, Jack Johnson, 60's guitar stuff like Floyd, Jimi etc)
3) 3.1) 99 Red Baloons - Gold Finger version 3.2) Angel of Death - Slayer 3.3) Helterskelter - The Beatles

ACT is awesome for metal and punk bands...well it was when I grew up there :) I used to play drums in punk and metal bands, then later, 4 string tenor banjo and piano accordion in a Tasmanian/Russian folk band.
Still play my banjo and recently picked up guitar again because my son did. I mostly like playing classical and gypsy jazz but im pretty undisciplined when it comes to learning stuff, usually trying to remember what id learnt years ago. But I get better the more I'm waiting for the Mrs. to get ready ;)
It'd be great to play in a dixie/trad jazz band but im the same with datski620 how much time I want to devote to it with always too many projects on the go
Dunno too much new music (still ears-deep in great stuff from before i was born and the music I loved growing up) But by the sounds of yr taste in music Id recommend Mastodon's album Blood Mountain if you haven't already heard it, they supported Slayer the time before they were out and blew me away :)

I'll check Mastodon out Wurzel, also I'm def interested in expanding into traditional folk and jazz styles esp gypsy styles, got any composers / band names / song titles for the good old search engine?
Well helterskelter and 99 red baloons are very easy, happy with them. Angel of Death on the other hand requires about an hour of warm up just to get the picking speed up to scratch, dammm slayer songs are fun to learn.

Django Reinhardt is a good place to start - the king of the style, also the most remarkable and inspirational as he only had two and a half fingers on his fret hand! This is a trad one I'm part way through learning at the moment played by Angelo Debarre http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzSen9BMZJENot as hard as it sounds once you get the tune stuck in your head and work out the fingering...Not that Im anywhere near this good! Here's the tab for it if you're keen to have a crack at it... chords n all!: http://www.hotclub.co.uk/gypsyworld/images/1/15/ValseBamboula.pdf

No probs, I only just stumbled across that site myself searching that song title! Theres lots of great apps you can get these days that make learning guitar so much easier. Tuxguitar is one...the only problem is having another reason to sit in front of a computer ;/

1. I play guitar, piano and sing. 2. Rock, Electro, Jazz, whatever basically as long as it doesn't involve bloomin bagpipes! 3. Boards of Canada and Vadoinmessico
Now I'm post 30 I struggle to find the time to play that I did in my 20's. I used to reheard a good 25/30 hours a week with my bands but now I've got kiddies, etc, I just don't have the time. Shame but what can you do? Real life eventually takes over.
