basically i have a hole s13 sitting next to a 1200 sedan, silvia being fitted with a red top sr20 turbo motor and 5 speed box i run a custom shop with 8 employees so knoledge of modifying cars and custom fabrication isnt a problem the problem i have is i have 2 months till the car has to compete so im looking for the best easiest method but still want to turn heads i have seen someones post were they have fitted the s13 rear suspension setup into a ute but thinking im lacking time to do such modification should i just skip that and 4 link it and also what can i do for the front end is it possible to narrow the front s13 crossmember 200mm and reuse it as well along with the coilover setup ? give me a few ideas guys

Well. If I had to do it again (I wouldn't, but let's be hypothetical) I'd notch the floor to fit a big exhaust and do the rear end like the Mopar "SickFish" Troy Trappanier did. Yes, use the front suspension, but not the crossmember.

Good luck doing a "turn heads" job in 2months. Take lots of photos.

yeak can use the 1200 x member. where are you located? as the wiki has the s13 stuff in there. think you need different lower control arms, castor rods, tie rods. steering arms etc.

apparently it adds a little bumb steer and front end track width.

look in the tech wiki i even added the link cause people cbf looking in the tech wiki

i just found your other post its actually a sr20 and will be running between 240kw and 280kw and be hot pink so the paint will turn heads non the less lol

guess you arent planning on having it on the road then? coz no matter how good you are at modifying cars you wont get an engineer to sign off on a turbo'd SR

does the car actually need to perform? or do you just want people to look at it?

SR is also physically a fair bit bigger and a whole heap harder to fit in the bay nicely. and not at all engineerable which is why most people go for a CA.

usually when you are building a datsun 1200 you aren't doing it to impress others, its usually something you do for yourself....but building a pink 1200 with an SR in it, fair enough

do you have any particual wheels you want to run on the car (please dont say front runners)? as Unfam said the S13 front end usually increases the front track a fair bit so you end up having to fun pretty positively offset wheels to keep them anywhere near the guards

rear end, easiest would probably be a shortened BW78, r31 diff, and 4 link if you want. could just keep the leaves and add some traction bars to get rid of axle tramp as there isnt a whole heap of room unde the back of a sedan to do a 4 link setup unless you are going to cut top arm channels into the floor inder the seat. 3 link setup would also be a heap easier and get the job done

if you run the S13 box the handbrake will need to be moved back a fair bit so that it doesnt hit the shifter

yeah this vehicle will never be even thought about trying to get it registered ive learnt theres 2 ways to buiding a car one way is plan everything from the start and end up not having when u first planned it or go with the flow ive got bout 20 sets of wheels out the back that i will riffle threw to find the best offsets but main aim to keep stud pattern front and back the same so an r31 diff will most likely make sense keeping with the 4x 114.3

there is no way i would be running front runners for a hillclimb car and im looking at minium off 2 degrees neg cam

removing the floor isnt a drama in the back and refabricating as already have the firewall trans tunnel and boot to fabricate as it is

and handbrake will get ditched and a hydraulic handbvrake will get fitted

track car....that makes it much easier

i guess go for gold then

probably easiest to just make as much stuff as you can then. put the s13 coilovers and hub/upright in and just make some control arms and caster rods to suit. that way you can make them exactly how they need to be

pretty sure the s13 coilovers will sit the car fairly low, hence the bump steer. so dont know what you really do about that. and then the springs and inserts will probably be a bit on the stiff side for the car anyway

guess you really need some of the actual racers to give their 2 cents then as to what you want in regards to suspension geometry. thats where the IRS would be good as you have a lot more adjustability in it than with a solid axle
but most as going quite well with solid axles
