yeah the arms (that run on the cam) are diffrent lengths between the fuel pumps, maybe you have bent the a12 one and it is not working correctly

alright ill go swap them and see how that works. last time i couldnt get the a14 one to work on the engine but it worked fine while off the engine, i think the problem could have been the redish spacer plate/gasket things though. ill go have a stuff orund with it, thanks

Ya, I got my car running fine now. The small hose thing from the distributor to the carby was disconnected. The vacuum advance thing. I put it back on and no more running problems.

good to hear. mine is a bigger issue, seems that the coil/distributer etc. is all wired wrong and the points are getting 12V all the time which is burning the points out. thats why after 5 mintures of driving the point obviously get enough heat in them to stuff up and stop the car... i think anyway?

It will be your coil overheating that causes bad running after 5 mins. I once had a similar problem years ago. Make sure the power to the coil comes from the ballast resistor.

got that all fixed up today. now all the wireing to the coil is fixed but i still have the same problem. it seems that as soon as it reaches a certain running temp the revs break down and it stops. this isgetting really frustrating because i have replaced everything ignition wise except the actual dizzy which is fine as far as me or any mechanics can tell and still the problem is there.!!!

It sounds like you have taken care of anything that might be ignition related. It sounds to me more like carb related. I had a similar problem years ago when trying to use a different carb. What carb are you using on this beast? The problem I had was when attempting to use a newer carb (non 1200) from a A14. I had just put a new cylinder head and intake on it and it idled and seemed to run fine! But the next day after we got it running I got about 2 miles from home then it started idling funny and then I'd have to give it tons of gas to get the revs up to get the car moving, then it would kinda die out. I believe it had something to do with the anti dieseling solenoid or something, but I just took that carb off and went to the smaller, but much simpler standard 1200 carb and it ran great.

If you want to see if its the anti dieseling solenoid, unscrew it, take the centre out of it then screw it back on. If it fixes the problem you know it was that. Then you can choose whether to find a replacement or just to leave it off, it will still work ok just like a 1200 carbie that doesnt have one from the start.

after driving it home from the auto electricians last night i am leaning more towards the carby/fuel side of things. i have made sure the anti diesel solenoid is good and even changed it so i dont think that is the problem but what makes me thing it is a carby/fuel prob is 2 reasons.
1. the carb is the only external engine thing i havent replaced and 2. last night when it died i left it there to cool down for about 2hrs, when i came back the problem was still the same, as soon as i gave it revs it would seem to die, so i left it to idle for a little while and it was fine again after that, it also seems the longer i leave the car in nuetral when i am driving the longer the journey lasts. this brings me to thinking that maybe engine is being flooded due to something, does this sound possible??? also when i start the car in the mourning it blows a massive cloud of smoke which i think is fuel, i thought this may be fuel left over from the night before being blown out the pipe???

oh and the carb is just standard a14 one as far as i know, like its definatly not a webber or SU or anything and im just assuming its off an a14 not an a12 or a15, not sure what year or anything just know it does have the diesel solenoid and an auto choke
