guy on the next street up from me has a sr20det 1200 ute...
Dunno if you'd call it driveable... that much hp at the wheels, it handles like its on ice

Doubt very much that its engineered though. He takes it out very rarely. Its more of a drag car i think.

Ya best of talking to an engineer probably to see what the legalities are. If ya do, do us all a favour and post it up here

It is not possible to engineer a sr20det in a 1200 ute legally...
my advice is build one and keep it reg'd in the process then you can think about the engineering after...

I've got a datsun 1200 ute with sr20det, unfinished project. motor starts and runs, front mount intercooler (apexi) , nismo engine mounts, nismo brass button clutch, body in poor condition needing rear 1/4 and rust in usual spots. R31 front struts fitted, TRX diff supplied but not fitted yet. Possibly thinking of selling. Excellent project but needs lots of work to complete. might want to sell for serious buyer. Im in sydney.

I have it on good authority that there is a 1200 coupe in WA with a SR20DET that recently went through the pits. the suspension shop that helped me get springs for my ute looked over it before it went through the pits. The car is a white coupe, originally from SA...... possibly brought over here cos it couldn't be registered there. The guy that owns it (I dont know him) works for one of the more respected racing workshops in WA.

Our local authorities are knobjockeys- they will tell you 'no that's not possible' and then pass a car with less legal mods than what you were proposing. A mate of mine's old man recently had a mustang passed with a highly illegal exhaust- his mechanic knew the mechanic at the pits. all about who you know, bugger all to do with following the rules.
