I also posted the pictures in the members photo section under webbs1200 so you can get a close up view of the damage.

Is that from ol' Casper Coupe or from the 8000 RPM California Coupe?

I rebuilt my engine and intalled a new reground cam. I intalled the old rocker arms and didn't notice that a few had worn tips. The tips would actually grab the tips of the valves and bend them over. I broke 3 valve guides, blah blah blah. Soon after, I had 3 lobes go bad on the cam. oops

Look at the pics in the photo album of the cam. You can really see the damage

I have no clue how this happened.

I cant be certain as to the cause of your problem but I have seen this before on an A series race engine. After much investigation it was traced back to the standard rocker arms and support shaft overheating and running the contact surfaces dry of oil. This was caused by high lift race cams with aggresive ramp angles and heavy duty double valve springs placing too much load on the base of the rocker bores (engine ran 8500rpm). This of course led to similar damage shown in your pic and took a long time to figure out. I cant understand how this could have occured in a street engine
Lack of oil, overheating, excessive wear/clearance somewhere else or just faulty materials during manufacture
By the way, the problem that occured in the race engine just mentioned was resolved by turning up some T6061 rocker spacers to increase the oil pressure at the rockers.

This motor is not a street motor. It was built by Lance in Japan when he worked with Tomei, Les at Classic Datsun Motorsports has the second motor he built and knows the history behind them.

This motor red lined at 10,500 rpms.

It is interesting that you metioned the rockers because this motor seems to have what looks like stock rockers, with heavy duty double valve springs.

I would be interested if you could elaberate more on the fix to the problem. I am not familiar with the spacers you mentioned.

You help would greatly be appreciated.

Ken

It looks like lifter failure from lack of radius on the lifter face.

Must be a very good A14 :)

Thats the sort of revs my A13 pulls. Are you using Titanium rods?
