i am having so so so much trouble with my bloody SU's i am seriously thinking about just tossing them out and buying a set of twin dellorto's!!! i think the float is ####ed and i can't figure it out(i'm a musician not a mechanic)lol what kind of performance should i expect from changing from SU's to Dellortos??? anyone got an inlet manifold for an A15? thanks heaps ty

do SUs even have a float?
Maybe they're out of oil?

see the thing is i took the ute to a mechanic at my local BP and he tuned them, but i couldn't drive it, first was shocking, it was like the engine was missing, so i tuned the su's a little bit richer and now i have a dead spot in high rev range, i don't know whats going on ty

Are the "Hitachis" [SU's] off an A-series originally, or off an L-Series. Needle profile can influence the performance. Make sure the carbs are balanced with each other. Check the needle and seat and float setting. They are not really that hard to tune....

I have always found the Hitachis to be a relatively easy to get running right, and compared to the Webers or Dellortos (which need tuning by a real expert,not cheap) the Hitachis are a snack.

im about to jump into the su arena this week too, but wondering if gx needles will be enough for my a15 and cam?
im guessing just but not too high up in the rev range, but then again my a15 doesnt rev as high as boofs old a12

I would say that any side draught (Mikuni's, Dellorto's or Weber's) would flow more than a pair of SU's as the sidie's have 2 40mm butterflys each and even though the SU's dont have that restriction I think the 4 x 40mm throttle's would be better still. I thought that SU's always needed constant tuning for the atmosphere conditions too, I have a mate with a LJ Torana with a 186 engine fitted with tripple SU's, he had dramas keeping it running right then eventually went to tripple 45's webers and tuned it twice, it now sounds evil, responds like a 2 stroke and pulls much harder than the previous setup. Good luck with it anyway
