we have all thought about this kinda #### like WOAH ITD BE SO FAST and it would be but only
good for drags and thats the opposite of what datsuns are built for
If it was me i'd either go ca18de or ca18det to keep weight a little down or even 4age
weight is the key and thats why a series are the tits for 1200's/1000's because they can get decent power from there size and weight.

if you STILL rekon that you want do it, then hell who are we t tell you no.Definately gonna be a MACHINE. go nuts and do it properly.

i've pysically moved both these engines by myself without a hoist. I can tell you a12 and sr20 are not that much different (after a/c and p/s are removed - I would guess at 20kg+ with their steel brackets)

I can tell you for sure there is no way on gods green earth there is 65kg difference!

Quote:
I weighed my SR20 with the quads and it came in at 96kg. I weighed my A15 without exhaust manifold of intake manifold and it was 69kgs I weighed the webers and manifold and it was 8kgs so all up 77kgs... now I reckon 20kgs difference wasnt too bad...especially for the extra power.

Never seen it done
Don't have an SR handy to measure to see if you could
I'd say it would need shifting back in the chassis to get the weight right
Need a bigger tunnel
Bigger diff req
Coilover front susp to handle the extra weight
Improved rear suspension
Some brakes would be nice
Body stiffening would be required

I'm sure there would be other things crop up

Basically a proper rebuild with lots of refinements and safety equiptment
If its a slap together I'd wager someone will become a smudge on a roadway pretty fast
Built right though it would be a weapon

I'm doing all that but with a CA18et
Oh.... and a half cage

Keep it up fellas,
like i said, the reasons for.. the motor and box will cost net to nothing, I won't be running any AC or power steer etc,

the Dat is spare and well up for a transplant, it's a bit away from it's former glory (won a couple of trophy's at the western nationals a few years back with an A14)

I know 4AG was alway on the cards,
a Rotary would be good as well, but personal preferance keeps me away from that path,
VG30Dett with auto was the option for drags only,
I still love the A series, and have one ready to go in the Wagon,

the only problem with me smashing the SR in, is that the mate who I'm donating a 1000 coupe too, the rules were he's not allowed to swing a hair dryer off it.. ha ha
but i think if I go SR, all bets are off..

How radical do you want to go with the car? Do you want to do what Neil said or keep it registered? (or both lol)

Also how about putting some pics of the wags up.

Cheers
