need help for 1971

I have a 1971 1200 which I just bought. The previous owner has owned since new and has kept the car in great shape. We did a tune-up the other day to help it run better, but when I come
to a stop the car stalls when I have the A/C running. We can't seem to adjust it so this doesn't happen. Any ideas? I live in Florida and would kind of like the A/C working. Any help
would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

AC, lucky you. I'd say you weren't looking for any speed with that car. Otherwise you would ripe it right off the engine. AC is nice
though.
Looks like the AC is putting a load on the motor.
You might be stuck raising the engine idle up a little bit. The screw is right where the throttle cable connects. That might be the best
you can do.

There must be some kind of idle up solenoid that isn't engaging when the a/c comes on. Usually it is switch with a plunger that pushes against the throttle linkage when battery voltage
is supplied to it. It will be somewhere @ the base of the carb. (I have the Canadian factory repair manual & it lists no a/c info). If you find that it has an electric controll, have
someone turn the a/c switch in the car on & off (key on & engine not running). @ the same time check for battery voltage @ the switch on the carb. You should get power @ this circuit
whenever the a/c compressor clutch has power.
If you find that there is no electric controll then there must be some kind of vacuum diaphragm that increases the idle.(though I doubt it).
Simply cranking up the idle will cause other drivability problems such as running on.(dieseling)& poor gas mileage.
I hope my ramblings give you some ideas, the above ideas are off the top of my head, so I hope they fit the system on your car.
You didn't mention weather the a/c works @ all, if it doesn't work @ all maybe the compressor is siezed.
Good luck sorting out your 1200, What model is it?

Thanks for the ideas. Yes the a/c works, the previous owner just had it replaced before I bought the car.
My 1200 is the 2 door sedan. It has been restored 3 times. It has 227,000 miles on it that we know of. The odometer is now not working...any ideas on how to repair this? Do I
need to remove the dash?
Thanks

The easiest way to fix you odometer is to replace the speedo head with a used one. I have a spare if you're interested. You might want to look in your area first. A speedo repair shop may
be able to fix yours. Removing the speedo does require pulling the instrument cluster, but it isn't that difficult. If I remember correctly a phillips screw driver should do for most of the
job.

If i remember correctly, the instrument cluster is screwed onto the plastic insert in your dash. You have to remove the radio knobs, heater knobs, headlight and windshield wiper
knobs....and then the tricky part...there is a metal tab inside the dash that attaches to the back or bottom or the inst.cluster with a philips screw. Its somewhere under the speedo
and temp/fuel dials. Its very hard to see. Anyways if you undo all this and the speedo cable and instument wire harness, the whole thing will pop out.
To be honest with you, it might be easier to pull the whole dash out.

There is also a trick to getting the instrument cluster knobs off as I found after breaking a couple. You have to pull the knob out, grip the shaft with needle nose pliers,
push the knob back slightly and then turn 1/4 turn (anticlockwise I think). The knob should now come off the shaft.

I dont worry about using the pliers, I find that turning it about a 1/4 turn in a direction (cant remember which way it is, but its opposite way you turn to get the
windscreen wiper water jet going) makes it come of fine.
