i dont think you will ever see a 1200 make 200hp at the flywheel. 165 is quite impressive! there is a 1500 floating around somewhere reputed at 200 at the flywheel but i dont know if that is provable. personally i find it very hard to imagine a 1.5 litre engine making that much power without NOS.... especially an old push-rod.

Yep, this is only 1300cc and you would be hard pressed to find a better 1300cc engine still N/A.

This has excellent HP for a 1300cc push rod and has the torque to go with it .... a real stump puller!

When I was running this engine, often I was quicker thsn the 1500 & 1600cc cars in the class.

Condition: it is curently out being "freshened" so will be sold in a brand new state.

sounds like a real impressive set up if you're pulling 165hp thats even more impressive especially out of a 1300cc engine (i have little doubts on the figure after reading the bits and pieces in it) $2500 would be an absolute bargain for this considering what it would have cost to build ... i cant give any indications for what it'd be worth but to someone who wants it and understands what's been put into it ... maybe upto $4000 ??
it's sometimes hard to get serious ideas and answers from this forum as "i can stick a CA with a big turbo and intercooler in it for that much !!!! " is often as far as it gets ........
it sounds like a serious engine for someone who'll appretiate it
good luck with the sale

I'm with Boofhead here. 165 hp at the fly from a mid 60's designed, 1300cc two valve pushrod engine on carbs definately impresses me. Particularly when you realise that it has done a season so far without mechanical failure.

A reliable 200 hp from what amounts to an A13 on carbs really is just someone pleasuring themselves in my view.

What's it worth? Well, I would suggest that the doubters & knockers get a quote to duplicate this engine from a reputable shop, & suddenly the numbers mentioned so far will seem very cheap.

I am impressed that you have chosen the A12A block as these are a better choice than the A12 for the 1300cc classes since they were originally cast for the 75mm bore & they will bore out to 76.5mm for 1287cc [77mm= 1303cc] with greater safety than the A12 will. These blocks are an under utilised resource in this capacity group & they deserve more attention.

I hope that you find an appreciative buyer.

LIke i said i have no idea and it was just a gess. But to me its no longer a old engine dew to the fact its got modern engine modification's that cost big dollar. where as most modern stock engine's make this kind of power. noted that all my goals in a engine are easy of application and power ow and somthing that dont break.
so to me its not worth much. But to someone who needs a a12/a13(ie class restrictions) its worth wat ever u want to pay to win

just remeber peoples that whether old or new they still both use fuel and it has a specific energy that does not change.

by old we are talking about engine design... push rod is old technology that is why all new engines are overhead cam, more efficient!

edit... not all, most!

I wouldn't know the full cost of parts an labour but would imagine that $4000 would be the min. Alot of time and knowledge has gone into that enginge

its worth what people will pay.....

i mean i understand the money thats gone into it, but finding someone to pay $4000 for a motor is gonna be a lot of fun

chances of getting near $4000... slim to none

2500 would be max in my mind

a much better idea, keep it and use it, or sell it with a car running, more likely to get better coin if buyer can drive it
