that would be an r30 stumpy not an r31

i dont think you can fit any other gearbox without modding the tunnel
even with the stumpy boxes you will need to "massage" the tunnel a fair bit

Isn't there also a CA gazelle tranny that's close to the same length as the stumpy so the shifter comes up the stock hole but stronger? And more expensive.. and harder to find.. I seem to remember someone mentioning it. Dattodude perhaps?

If you are planning on modding the ca much past upped boost and a front mount i wouldnt bother with the stumpy box, seriously its #### its just a cheap way of sorting out the gearbox, they have issues shifting at high rpm. Go for the proper ca18 silvia box its not that hard to fit mainly a little massaging with mr 4lb mallet around the front of the tunnel and you will need to cut the shifter hole about 100mm back towards the handbrake. If you can get a manual ca18 box in there there is no reason why a ca18 auto box wouldnt fit i have seen it done.

It true you can use a CA18 box, I'm going to use the stumpy as the gear stick comes out the same hole as the original gearbox. As you can see from this pic - also check the wiki link.
