depends on the condition of the box, and how you drive it

id reccomend a larger trans tunnel, if it fits or not

will make life so much easier

He's right there - also a bearing needs to be changed in the stumpy gearbox to make it a good fit into the CA bellhousing...so not as easy as just getting a stumpy box.

Andrew ca18detman put a CA18det + stumpy in a 1200 coupe with a manual tunnel. Needed to cut off the factory gearbox mounts. Which doesn't matter as they don't have to be used.

must depend on the mounts a lot i think..

or maybe utes/coupe tunnels differ?

i once tried to install a ca with stumpy into a ute with maddat mounts.. and the engine could not even sit on the mounts with the trans attached while it had the standard trans tunnel... thats how far it was from fitting!

what about an sr20de into a 1200? what box and modifications required? i always thought cutting the firewall was a must but ive seen others fit them in quite nicely without cutting anything exept mounts

Fits easy in 1200 with sr20de, no firewall mods.

Just need to sleeve the sr20 bellhousing for the stumpy shaft... Stewart wilkins motorsport can help you with that.

Also an auto tailshaft will mean no tailshaft mods.... Makes the conversion simple :)

I put my ca18 turbo internals into the stumpy box when i did my conversion. when i puled my stumpy box apart to check its condition after i bought it i found that the gears were heaps smaller compared to the ca ones. i had to dissmantal the output shaft and use the stumpy one because the ca one is mutch longer. i think it should be worth the effort in the end.
can any one post some pictures up of there stumpy crossmembe, im thinking of changing mine as its a bit bodgie. thanx
