well guys and gals,

you will be happy to know that the a series is alive and well.

A long drive to winton today reaped excellent results for the 1000 coupe.

Last time i ran was in my old 1000 coupe ( a14 twin hitachi's) nothing special. I ran a 1.19secs. That was the best. But today was a different story.

I went with my best mate who has a sick 1600 with a sr20det, high flow t28, koni's and nolathane all round (sick car cm510.com. check it out). He managed a best lap of 1.11.75.

However to my absolute amazment and glee i managed to, not do a lap over 1.10 for the whole day and managed a best two laps of 1.08.15 and 1.08.38

It was a good feeling to have other competitors coming up to you and asking the question........ What are you running? sr20de, ca18de 4agz, and the shock on their faces when i had to tell them. "no just and a15". Then one guy asked (or said) it must be turbo!

had a top day hope to see some more a series on the track.

cheers

stevo

Congrats Steve you are doing what Ive always dreamed of, a 1000 with the power and weight to almost match a caterham. That was my dream for my datsun 1000 but could never get the power yours is producing unless I sell my soul or the weight down to 500kgs unless I seal the whole cabin up and fill it with hydrogen!
I envy your machine and would love to see it a little closer to melb such as calder when youre there next. My dat 1000 will take me there when you say youll be there (sms me or email me on 0407844430 or djt@asia.com.
Go the A-series! and go the forgotten and lighter 1000!
Oh and is it at all possible to put your 1000 on a webpage for others to see what a 1000 is, can be and to help it be salvaged from the arsehole carkilling pick-a-parts?

Thanks for the kind words.

There was a whole range of cars in my group (they run in groups of eight).

There was a couple of lotus replicas a 240z, austin healy sprites, an alpha sud , and from 5th on the grid managed to overtake all in front of me and lap the ones behind

what spec is your 1000??

Don't feel too bad my car only weighs in at 500-600kgs but is a custom bulit race car.

I will be racing in the second round of my series at calder on 3rd march, hope to see you there.

cheers

i just spoke to my buddy who has the pick in his camera, unfortunately it was he how i beat yesterday and he is still a little tender about it.

he said he would email them to me some time today.

as for the championship.....when i left yesterday is sitting 4th in class (racing) which will give me 8 points I think.

1st 15
2nd 12
3rd 10

But driving comes at a price, I think I my have done a big end bearing

anyway nothing time and money can't fix eh.

cheers

I have Gerald Mammi's old car 43. The full chassis one not his brother half chassis.
Its a 2 door sedan unfortunatly not a coupe.
I purchased it minus motor and box and have been building a motor for it. I was actually building the engine for my road car (1000 coupe) but I got carried away and decided to use the engine for the racecar.
I'm having second thoughts about the motor and might put it back in the streeter and get an SR20 turbo for the sedan. We don't have an Under 2L class here so theres no class competition so if I go for the turbo engine I will just go into outright class. I think. I'm really not sure yet.
I have specs of the car and some pics of it at Sandown but as I haven't finished the rebuild I don't have any pics of it since it came into my possession.I can take some if you want to see.
I have all the engine specs here. I'm thinking of changing the cam and pistons before I fire it up again though. I'm not confident they are going to last.
I'm probably about 6 mths away from firing her up whichever engine I use.
