Hello Boys and Girls.
Has anyone looked into the legalities of a tray mounted fuel cell? Or know of any decent links to the relevant information. I'm in QLD and want to make sure I can do it before I rush out and buy the hardware.

I reckon it should be fine.(although that's not gospel). You can mount lpg on the tray so why not other fuel ?
The real question is why would you want to ?

i have seen a pic of a green 1200 ute that was in QLD (it was for sale) and it had the fuel cell mounted on the tray. i tihnk as long as its selaed and stuff ( esp. if oyu have a hard cover) i tihnk you should be fine....you can always just pop into your local motor registry or phone an engineer and ask

I was thinking along the same lines as a LPG tank. I want to run a fuel cell so I can hook up a 2-Link rear later.
I might have to do some ringing around.

I think the main problem would be that fuel tanks have a vent pipe, the LPG tanks are completely sealed. If you were to get a small vapor leek it would/could fill the tray with flamable fumes, as fuel vapor is heaver then air. The other thing with the fuel cells, is you will be filling the tank inside the tray, not externally, there may be an issue with that too.
I could be totally wrong, as i have seen plenty of utes with them.

I guess the only way will be to spake to a engineer and get their view. They have to sign off on it.
