Tensandtwenties has just about got me convinced to put the VG-33 V6 behind the seats in the Chickenhawk. By using a Maxima 5-speed transaxle, we'd build a mid engine, V6 1200. What are some of your thoughts on this scheme? I know we have discussed this before, but i didn't want to drag up an old post.

What's wrong with dragging up an old post, if it's on topic?
Anyways, I say go for it. It would be interesting and definitely not a cookie-cutter recipe.
You might need to rename it "WheelieHawk" with little weight up front and all that torque ...

Just move the entire Maxima front-wheel-drive powertrain unit and front suspension back about 5 feet, then replace the Maxima with a 1200 ... since the engine and transaxle are a unit the the wheels will still turn the same way.
Or was Dimlight thinking of something else?

to make a MR car engine needs to b between axle and driver, u r talking about a porsche like setup. Whole axle-engine assembly will be turned 180 degree to get a MR car. this will b better then getting porshe like steup for weight dustribution, handling charectaristics and exotic appeal. but it could prove more difficult. barpk

hes talking about using a fwd box!
bro was looking at lada niva today, pointed out that there is a tailshaft between gearbox and transfer case, this means it could be used easily on any gearbox with a modified tailshaft, now all you need is the tunnel out of the niva and to rearrange the front end and you have a 4wd car!
food for thought

Rally-a-coupe, I'm using the V6 because I have a very low mileage engine out of a crash test car, thanks again John.
Barpk, I'm not sure what gearbox you are talking about. The FWD V6 Maximas we got had the engine sideways and just slightly in front of the transaxle.

Because the VG33E makes more power without the SC. And we can always turbocharge it later? And it's a Nissan engine? And.... A mid-engined set-up is identical to a FWD set-up, only mounted further back in the car.

the term 'transaxle' is not normally used in reference to fwd boxes. I think that's where the confusion came from.
You guys are talking about using the maxima engine and box mounted east-west in the rear of the 1200, not running the maxima V6 engine north-south and adapting it to a porsche style transaxle.
I think it's a very cool idea, but what would you use it for? over here you'd never register it for road use, and it wouldn't even be legal for any race category. maybe you could hillclimb it as a 'special' against the custom fabricated open wheelers, but you wouldn't be competitive.
