Today Lagwagon (leigh) and I spent the day doing laps at sandown. The day went well with only a few setbacks.

I'm hoping you will spot this thread boofhead and post some pics if you got any good ones. We got a couple from pit lane that aren't much chop.

I have some short videos on the way I'll stick up on youtube soon so stay tuned!

the only few setbacks dave is referring to are my spin and subsequent engine bay fire followed by by tow back to the pits only to sort everything out before heading out and losing all brakes at the end of the back straight after boiling and bursting the rhr wheel cylinder. i was doing 200 odd kph at the time, kinda needed them

boof should have plenty of good pics as he was flagging on a very slippery corner

i had a ball, and dave's little sedan posted some good times with stock boost and brake issues

Here's a few more pics. None of them are too exciting because it's hard to get action shots at Sandown because the public can only get access to the main straight area.

It was a great day for racing!

I reckon it looks pretty good with the race rubber on

Leigh being towed! It wouldn't be a day at the track without some "minor setbacks"

I broke my accelerator pedal off the floor. It seems the old plastic hinge wasn't up to violent double clutching! (the pedal's in my hand)

well done boys looks like you had some fun.

now what i need to know is what sort of track day was this and how often is it on? How much is it and what are the requirements to race.

whilst i may not have any race driver like skill, nor a race prepped vehicle to race with.

i do have a datsun 1200 ute.
and im quite partial to ringing its neck from time to time, and i think the ute likes it too.

i would love to do this in a legal fashion on a closed circuit.

Ben,

It would have been good to have another couple of dattos chasing the wrx's and skylines around. Leigh's best lap was a 1:32.5 and my best was a 1:35.3. We both reckon we could have shaved an extra second or so off our times had things gone a bit smoother.

Ange,

The day was run by the wrx club and affiliated with SAU (skylinesaustralia). The day cost $160 to enter but you must have your cams license and a membership to any cams affiliated club. Circuit racing is so much more fun that drag racing, you would really enjoy it.

ok cool $160 sounds fair and sandown is close by.

cams licence and joining a club is no biggy..

how often are days like this run? (wether it be wrx or other)

what are the requirements as far as your vehicle goes?

There is about 1 event per month with SAU. However, if you want to drive at any particular track they are on every other week. I'm new to the racing thing but there are other clubs like msca, maserati, hsv owners etc that run track days that anyone can enter apparently. I've heard the maserati days are really good because they don't get many entrants so you get lots of track time.

Off the top of my head, you need a fire extinguisher, a secondary bonnet latch, a tow point (I don't have one), a battery triangle. There are a few more I can't think of but nothing you couldn't sort out in a day if you had to.
