Did anyone else catch the story on the BP petrol station chain owner who was mixing regular unleaded with Ultimate and selling it as Ultimate? It was on last night. I can't remember the channel.

It was quite an interesting story. It makes you wonder how many issues the lower octane rating (tested and found to be 95 points) could have caused to performance car owners.

Apparently the ACCC is now investigating.

yes very interesting.

i normally run mobil premium in my ute. But as the local mobil is closed for refurbishment i filled up on BP premuim.

And then dyno'd my car on the same day!

makes me wonder if it was just regular unleaded?

Its no big deal for my engine, but if it were regular unleaded, the premium would have allowed a few more advanced degrees and maybe a couple more little ponies

I use any of the 98 octane fuels in my race car, but always use octane booster as well, just to be sure.
I wonder how often samples are taken from petrol stations to ensure that people are getting what they paid for? I've experienced slight detonation on a few occasions in my daily driver after filling up at a diifferent petrol station to where I usually go, especially in summer.

could happen at any servo. happened at the one round the corner from my house before it became a BP, same owners but now a Bp.... i dont fill up there unless DESPERATE.

Everyone knows what their car runs on better locally. Its like my local Shell... get crap economy in the subaru... but shell from todd road... get 80km more easily from same driving. supposedly same octane petrol.

Old story rehashed many a time.

To be fair it was only one owner of several BPs who was supposedly doing this. Random samples were tested fro other locations with all coming back as 98 points. I have never had a drama when you using Ultimate.

That's the concerning thing Rob - you can't do anything.

I only run my car on BP Ultimate and use Nulon Pro Strength octane booster when racing.

We only got ulitimate a few years ago here. When they droped lead, all the old/worked cars turned into pigs overnight. They don't sell mobil 8000 in my half of NZ.
Avgas is very easy to get here though.....

Good point,

I have always used Ultimate and don't really like the other fuels (personal preference)

I look at in the way one wanker P plater driver gets caught speeding through a school zone in a "performance car" then all owners of performance cars are seen in a negative light.

Being involved with performance cars for many years now I have seen and been victim to unwanted attention by the police just be cause of the cars I own.

This is the same thing, one owner has done the wrong thing! that doesn't mean that all BP's are the same!! just like not all owners of performance cars speed through school zones.

I would not let this incident deter me from using BP Ultimate fuel
