How much should a ca18det cost...(in OZ).
Local wrecker has some complete ones for $1600, g/b for $450,
(less if together)?

I take it that the box would be fine with standard engine, but how easy would it fit in a
1200 coupe?...slight hammer job

Again, Andrews the one to answer this. But i'll give it a go.

I guess $1600 is ok for a CA18det. But would rather find somthing without a computer. Get aftermarket stuff.

As for fitting it, quite a mods are needed. Whats your coupe like? Is it stock or has it allready got upgrades? If its stock, a bit more cash will be needed to make it legal. Front and rear
will be needing a strong upgrade. Fitting the CA will require fabricated engine mounts. Obviously sitting it as low and far back as possible. The gearbox tunnel will have to be bashed out
unless u have an auto shell. A fabricated gearbox mount. I think u also have to cut and weld a piece of metel on the firewall were the turbo sits. A bigger radiator will sit up front so u
will have to cut metal there and new mounts made . Also make room for an intercooler and pipes. Other things like surge tanks and fuel pumps are easily mounted.

I think thats covered most of it? cya

Use an A Series and Box as a measurement for how long the gearbox can be. I think you'll find the standard CA18DET gearbox will come up just in front of the REAR seat, and is not
usable in a 1200.
