I've added another pic showing the top/back of the disk brake. Pigdog, I'm not sure if you can tell what struts they are from the new pic. If no good, I'll take some more.

Is the R31/Sunny/Patrol combination a good brake package?

by looking at the new pic, id say stanza struts with the thread drilled out of the strut and then the caliper is spaced out to suit

dont know why they didnt just use bluebird or r31 struts, id look into that if i were you(shorter shocks and all) all you would need to do is cut the spring perch off the stanza struts and weld it onto the new, bluebird or R31, struts. then probably get a sheer load spacer for the bottom of the strut
then the brakes will go straight onto them as long as the caliper hasnt been modified

should be a decent brake combo in theory, really depends on what size the master is

yeah wouldnt work with sunny or 120y /1200 struts. et wheels work with stanza and 200b due to larger (thicker) hubs too, increasing space between strut tube and hub face.

et wheels work with 120y struts as thats what i have on my ute but u do need spacers and longer studs also 175 is the max tire u can use

ok let me rephrase, wont work without spacer, where they do on a stanza front end with no spacers and heaps of room.

Thanks for all the help guys....it's very much appreciated. I'm on a steep learning curve with the Datto and you guys make the climb a bit easier (although the replies can sometimes be a bit confusing!)....right, is that enough crawling??

I've only driven the car around the block a few times and I must say that the brakes did'nt inspire me with confidence!! Maybe I was'nt pushing the pedal hard enough (used to modern cars) or maybe the master cylinder is not right. I'm about to start the strip down so it may all work properly after a good rebuild (new discs, caliper kit, pads etc).
