I think they are referring to a distributor when they say, dizzy.

haha, oops =)

ok, the distributor is supposed to turn right? thats how you adjust the
timing?
There's supposed to be a little mark on the flywheel etc.....

well.....none of this is on my A12.

Can anyone help explain this to me? thanks

I assure u its all there. The dizzy will twist in both directions, advance and retard. Sometimes the little notchs that show u how many degrees advance u have may not apply as sometime
people when pulling the A12 apart they put the dizzy back in 1 tooth out and timings all out. Funny, it like my current A15. Its as far retarded as possible but is definatly advanced up.
Runs fine.

Mark on the flywheel? U mean the front pulley? Theres marks on the pulley and front cover for checking timing. There are slite variations between different A series tho.

I dont bother throwing on a timing light. I just tune them by ears and eyes. Unless its just been rebuilt. But as long as u have a good spark in the right spot with the right mixture of
fuel and air we should have a bang. cya

hmmm.......alright, i'll take your word for it =)

Front pulley? that would be.......?

I've been working on a valiant charger heaps, and the mark to set the timing is on the flywheel, i thought it would be the same (or close
to) on my datsun.
Where abouts is this pulley?

ahhh.......i think i found it.

I just went out (in the dark!!) and had a look at it. There is the smallest mark on the flywheel, hardly noticeable. What 'pulley' are you talking about? There's a mark on the
flywheel, and on the front cover.

Thanks for your help =)

Well I'm confussed,NOT!!
The gizzmo That is being referred to as a flywheel, if it is indeed on the front of your engine is the crankshaft belt drive pully and on a lot on engines, functions
as a vibration dampner.
The flywheel is on the rear of the crankshaft and for most of us is where the clutch cover, clutch
and tranny input shaft is. This is not usually
visable without removing the bellhousing and tranny. Are we on the same page?or am I missing something somewhere?
Hope that helps
Steve

You need to get yourself a repair manual for your car model. It will show pictures and drawings of your car and give names of parts and everything like that. I'm surprised
that you haven't thought of that before.

You know how much those things are? $37!
I'm not a cheap bastard or anything, but i am only 16, get no pocket money, and only work once a month (or so). And shit, if i cant come here and ask a few questions without
being picked on for not having the 'manual', then what the fuck is this forum for?

gimme a break
