In SA you'd have had your license taken off you on the spot - even on your full license!

At least we don't have the stupid 3km/h over speeding tickets though like Victoria though.

Still - unless you were in perfect weather on a nice wide, straight stretch of freeway, the old ton is getting a bit crazy the way a lot of our roads are.

Thats called martial law and is illegal in most countrys. Thats why we have police. Soldiers are trained to kill enemys. There not trained in civil order.

Military presence on the street has nothing to do with martial law. Australia was not under martial law during the olympic games.
If you have a drivers license - you know the road rules. If you speed you know you can be caught anytime. If you get caught - take it like an adult.
If you know you are speeding and have time to flip the bird to the camera - you deserve to be fined cause you are a ####in dickhead.

Who else has those mobile speed camera things like in perth? those things would kill me...

I'm in the one point club again (not proud of it), about 2 weeks ago, I'm flying along the highway, running late for work, S*#T, jam on the brakes as I see a highway petrol on the side of the road, I'm doing 140 in a 100 zone, he pulls me over, tell me he got me at 133, then shows me the radar gun that shows 137, goes to his car and comes back "there you go mate, 15kmh and under, have a good night" "Thanks, yeah you too mate"

So I was nice to him, was honest when he asked me why I was speeding, had my license ready. I know that he had me for the 3 seconds that they are meant to but I guess he was just in a good mood... and I'm thankful.

In NSW 30kmh and over is loss of license for three months. In total now I have lost 15 points, am almost 24 and still have my license, its just a bitch when you have to ring the insurance company...

It has everything to do with soldiers on the street

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martial_law

Unfortuantly our trusty Australian government introduced the Defence Legislation Amendment (Aid to Civilian Authorities) Bill just before the Sydney 2000 olympics. This is PERMANANT legislation which means troops can legally "deal with" any civil disobedience - ie Riots, Looting, Peaceful Anti-war demonstrations and sqaush any social/political tension that may arise in the future.

This is not a cool law.

davo, we where taught to injure enemy's not kill them, it takes more soldiers to take care of their wounded than their dead. my worst was 120k in a 60 zone, back then it was 6points and $250 dollars, now it's bye bye licence, but if you have a half decent record you can appeal it and get keep your licence, but need 6months of good driving and a defensive driving course, then back to court to prove you have done this course.

Once again - Military presence on the streets has nothing to do with martial law.
Military presence on the streets has nothing to do with dictating rules.
A security guard in a shopping centre is by no means dictating how the shopping centre runs. They are there to protect and prevent criminal activity. Just like the Australian military during the Olympic games.

Yes martial law has to be be declared. But with this law (allready declared) troops can be on the ground in area's like the olympics and enforce there law. Wierd. The Americans specifically have a law against troops doing police work - posse comitatus act - which the US military regularly voilates.

I understand that the military was "providing security and protecting us from evil terrorists" but i just dont wanna see my country go down when people do want political change.

Militarys are for wars - police are for civil disputes.

It seems we have difference of opinion and im not really going to take this any further.

I was caught doing 100 in a 60 zone 5 days after getting my P's. Cop was an old stager who made light of the fact that I'd only had it a short time. He bumped me down to the 15-30 over bracket so I would keep my licence, but said if I got caught again while on my P's he'd track me down and teach me a lesson. I have no idea whether he meant it but I didn't plan to find out!

I lost my licence within a year of getting off my P's, was given a probationary licence, and have not done anything remotely illegal on the road in the 9yrs since. Safe to say I learnt my lesson. You can love fast cars and be a safe driver at the same time, just make sure you conduct your automotive mayhem in a controlled environment.
