Try a t25 from a ca18det. Whoever told you that a t4 with t3 rear is a total fool and anything they say should be ignored when it comes to anything to do with cars.
The t25 will be cheap and easy to get as they are regularly removed from silvias to upgrade to larger turbos.
An a15 will have to use most of its rev range to get a t3/t4 turbo going and will be laggy as hell and a general pain in the ass to drive.

The GTiR turbo is a T28 with a larger 0.84 or 0.86 A/R exhaust housing? not really a good choice for a < 1800cc.

If it's in good condition many SR20 people would buy it for ~$500-$700.

i beg to differ the t28 would be a great turbo, i have the exact same turbo on my car off a gtir pulsar goes great, and dan the owner of the brown 1200 sedan in qld uses a gt30 makes a good 265hp out of an a12 he had a t28 before that. the t28 would be a great buy.
