Quote: well who has herd of a supercharger on a small 4cly? Let's see: Mini Cooper, Toyota MR2, GM Saturn ... For equivalent power levels, Superchargers are generally less expensive. If you do the work yourself, a turbo is cheaper. Get a used turbo, some welding and you're in business. But then add intercooler, boost controller, etc and a turbo quickly outmoney's a blower.

I could build a drawthrough turbo set up for less than the cost of an S/C supercharger. But, lag sucks!

nah lag is a small downside. 30% more power, and an extra 1500usable revs with the same boost (on my motor) make the turbo way better. I can also drive around off boost if wanted to save fuel. And its not that hard to keep it on boost if driving fast.

Extra 1500revs? Is that a turbo motor vs n/a? My S/C motor revs to 8900. Thats spinning pretty quick for any engine.........

yeah thats why I said on MY motor. With the supercharger it stopped making power at around 6000rpm. You could rev it higher but it was pointless. With a turbo on the same motor it keeps making power to 7500. Probably not such a problem on a 1.4L, but even on a 1.6 they are marginal for top end.

Thats an S/C 12 on a 1600 aye? Figures. I've scored a CA18det that I'll be fitting a screw blower to. Compared to the limited toyota huffers, it should do some quite impressive things at the boost I intend to run. I think it's unfair to judge supercharging by the anicdotal performance of one brand of supercharger.

yep thats sc12 on a 4age.
Yes it is unfair to judge superchargers on teh performance of toyota superchargers. I would choose a whippel s/c over a turbo any day but they are just way too expensive. IMO the sc12 is the only s/c that competes with a turbo for money spent. And for that money I would rather have a turbo.
