Im am going to put a hilux diff in my 1200 sedan. I woulsd like as much info as I can get and any problems i will run into. I know it has to be shortend

Which hilux lsd diff is the best to use?

Does a custom driveshaft need to be used?

What is a good ratio? My car has a z18et in it i dont wat to race it just make a good street car.

Will the exhaust fit over it easily?

How far can I lower the car once its in?

Any information and advice what so ever would be very appreciated.

Thanks Andy

me too
you want a 2wd diff as it has 5 stud pattern (same as ford 5 on 114.3)
any lsd is good
lots of ratios available
lockers lsd's air lockers available
axle tube is only slightly larger than 1200(use hilux U bolts)
you will need hilux drive shaft for rear yoke
what is a good ratio?
how tall is your tire?
does your gearbox have overdrive?
what do you want to do with the car?
what rpm do you want to cruise at?
use the centre you get with the diff and drive it for a while youll know which way you want to go

Apart from the need to shorten the housing and axles you will need to fabricate mounts
and decide how to adapt your brake setup of choice and/or stud pattern of choice.

your tailshaft will need furthur modification to adapt to the toyota diff

4wd hilux's came with LSD centre, so theyre the preferred choice, although LSD centres
from a 4wd will go into a 2wd housing of the same model.

im not sure about lowering or exhaust clearance in a sedan as ive got a hilux rear
in a ute.

and for ratio's with the z18 your gonna want something bewtween 3.7 and 4.11 for a
streeter depending on wether you want it to cruise nice or punch hard off the line.

the hilux diff is overkill, theyre very heavy (a bit heavier than a borg warner) but they
take a hell of a beating.

good luck

Im using a vn borg warner 4 pinion 4.11 lsd in my z18 powered 120y had to have the housing shortened and new mounts made for the shocks but apart fom that went in quite easlily. Used skyline 28 spline axels to keep the stud pattern the same and skyline rear calipers seems to be an easier conversion than the hilux due to it allready having rear discs just somthing to think about

If you are after centre you can swap with ease, and to keep the 4 stud datsun pattern you could consider using the skyline axels and tubes into the hilux centre, thus creating a disk brake hilux diff. The hilux share the same spline axels although im lead to believe some have a 31 spline as opposed to a 28, but cant say for sure.

You could grab any hilux housing fairly cheaply. It may be slightly more involved than either a straight hilux or skyline set up but will be a better result in the end with the right stud pattern, disk brakes, and a centre you can swap as you please.

He's running 12 inch wheels, with hub caps and white walls. So I'd reccomend a 3.7

only using 12s....good luck fitting brakes under them, as even the drum brakes off either diff will be to big to fit

im guessing hilux LSDs are a bit better than BW ones, based on the fact that BW LSDs are ####
and hilux diffs look cooler

WAIT! I'm confused. They're 13's. The hub caps are are the same as the old 12's I had on my sunny. I was having a senior moment.

yep 13s that was a senior moment!!

I want to use bluebird 910 disks on it as these fit behind my steelies.

They should fit the skyline axels?
