heya's

anyone here ever put a super-charger on an A12?
I'm thinking about it.......

Just want to know what sort i should be looking for, and how hard is it to install and setup? But first of all, is it even possible to put one on there? because i've never seen
a datto with a super, only turbo or twin webers etc........

any help appreciated, thanks

PS. What sort of price am i looking at? in the thousands?

hey, you may be able to get boobies rule an Alfa one and adapt it, i have seen a couple in the trading post, but they are around $1000. i think it is easier to push out exhaust
(turbo) than to turn a supercharger all the time, cos its only a little engine. but Im not sure. Itd be cheaper to get a race donk and put that in probably.

Thousands (two or three I'd guess)
Some things to consider:
Staying carb or going EFI?
Roots-type or centrifugal supercharger?
Do you want to intercool or not? If so, you better go EFI!
Better change your exhaust to accomodate more HP
Same for fuel system

Supercharging 1200cc might get you 110-120HP (almost 100% increase), but for that price you can convert to an L20B and have that same HP w/out a supercharger
and the hassles involved.

same HP? really?

And where would i get a L20B engine from? any datsun wreckers? An how much would they cost?
It would be nice to have a super charger under the bonnet, just so you can say that you have one... =) but if you get the same HP from a bigger engine that will fit in my datto,
and for a much cheaper price, it'd be logical to go for the L20B. And what exactly is an L20B? specs etc

Well, that's my guess - I've never seen dyno numbers for a supercharged A12, but I do know aL20B and LZ22 "hybrid" (L20B head on LZ22 block, so 2.2L in your 1200!) will fit in a
1200 and net 100kW with very little effort.

Sorry I didn't answer you completely. The L20B came in most 4-clinder Nissan's from 1975-1980. If it's not an A-series Datsun, it's probably an L-series Datsun. You do NOT
want the NAPS-Z head.

L20B's grow on trees out here- a complete one for $250-$300US is not uncommon.

I've also looked at doing both these conversions on my 1200 before. To fit an L20b would require a bit of work to the mounts etc. It wouldnt be too hard at all but u have to get it spot on
as the L20b's are taller than the A series. Would be a nice ride with a bit of work and some webers.

Supercharger i allways thought about it but never thought about actually doing it! I just didnt see the point in spending alot of cash for not so much power gain. Were as a fully worked A
series can produce more than 160hp with out forced induction.

If your after forced induction tho, a CA18det or Z18t is they way to go. The Z18t is pretty much the same conversion as the L20b except all the computer stuff and EFI stuff.

Dont bother trying to convert an old engine with a turbo or supercharger. You will end up with more headaches and relibility problems and usually end up costing u alot more than first
planed.

But, if u have the money to do it properly first time, go for it. I would love to see a supercharger hanging off the side of an A series. Everything comes down to how much money u want to
spend.

Hope this helps :) cya

I have thought about whether you could use a Volkswagen Polo G60 supercharger on an A series as it's pretty small and intended for use on a small engine. I don't know if
this model was available abroad though. There aren't many around here but they're not worth much so it could be a cheap source.
BTW... what's the best way to take the compresion down on an A14 for use with a turbo? Will I be able to rework the combustion chambers enough or do I need different
pistons?

Cheers,
Eddie

I have a turbocharger from a 1986 Subaru 1.8L I think it's an excellent turbo for the A series engine as long as I can get a manifold made for it. I wonder how much boost it can push???
I've got that EFI setup waiting to go on along with the turbo also. For my next buildup I will be starting with an A15 that will be rebuilt and balanced with forged pistons, dual valve
springs, oversized stainless valves, a healthy cam, EFI, intercooled turbo, and roller rockers. I think 200 hp is acheiveable, but how long will it last??? Has anyone turbo'ed an A
series engine? What kind of mods should be done?
