I'm not a purist. I don't need to. You know what I have in store for that panelvan.

But what I do understand is when people spend too much for something and regret it then go another route in the power hunt. The humble little datsun, while easy on the eye has the driving excitement factor of an over cooked soggy potato. Which is why you spend so much money to make it go faster. Although factory EFI manifolds save you a little hassle they a relitively useless in the high performance market. Aftermarket EFI is the way to go if EFI is your thing.

Agreed 1200RC.
My old B10 sedan with big bore 1200 GX & 5 speed was never going to be a tyre smoker, but it provided excitement every time I drove it & I did that for something like 15 years. A soggy spud it was not.
It was so good in fact that I kept it & still have its mortal remains today, 28 years down the track & the memory of the excitement it provided is propelling me on with its replacement, my current KB10GL.

'Performance' is a word that encompases much more than merely going fast. It also includes efficiency, longevity, flexibility, liveliness, ease of driving, reliability, smog compliance & even fuel economy.

Factory EFI can help fulfill many of these parameters in a street engine, like the one I will be building, as it was designed by those staggeringly clever Datsun engineers, so for me, it's not about 'total performance' but it's about 'balanced performance' combined with asthetics, rarity, & the desire to utilise perfectly good, but often overlooked & under-rated factory componentry whenever the factory made something that was right for the job.

My KB10GL will be a street car, not a race car & geting a street car to perform with excellence in all of the varied environments that the big wide world is made of is much more difficult than just going fast. Moderation is always the key.

You want to drive fast & that's OK by me, but I want to drive well, now that's performance with a capital 'P.'

I will have to disagree with EFI all together, I prefer a custom inlet manifold with no wiring, clean alloy design with long runners, tapered runs everywhere to a clean fat rounded sausage plenum a gas research throttle body cheap LPG and a fully adjustable distributor-less ignition for better economy, no carbon deposits and simplicity. Along with jet proof coating on innards and exhaust manifold you will drive better, cheaper and happier than any expensive EFI system.

If you remember TRD wants to do a balls in the wind supercharger and turbo project. Not a mild fuel efficient monster. A factory manifold, in my opinion would be underkill.

having a powerful engine has never been a priority for me. ill stick with factory twin carbs, perhaps one day ill put the bike carbs on.maybe.
im one of those people who will pay a premium price for gear that is hard to get, but its all good money spent in my eyes, because my car is getting ever so close to being just the way i want it.
after all isnt that what its all about?

yes I agree all out performance is not my thing but neither is paying 700 for a manifold that can be built better and is useless with todays petrol prices. Time to adapt to alternative fuel LPG has been and will be cheaper by the klm forever over petrol by a long way.

I wouldn't pay more than $300-400 for one, I paid $100 for my L-series factory efi and I wouldn't turn down an a-series setup for the right price, I have the room so why not hoard it, I'd use it one day.

Odly enough, I don't remember what TYR33D wanted as it must have been in another thread & it doesn't mention anything about that in this thread.
However, you are right, for an all-in unblown A motor, the factory EFI will not provide the requisite performance that a custom race-only type of system would.

The cost [as opposed to 'value'] of used components is, as always, based on the hoary old supply & demand situation.
As the years roll on the number of available systems will dwindle & the number of people that want one will slowly increase. Why do people want them? I can't speak for others, but one of these fills my needs admirably & I will never need to cringe when I open the bonnet, or fear what the rego/smog nazi's might do.

You like Blondes, I like Redheads, it's all good.
