Hi people. Just dug me little Twin cam out of the long grass. When we started it the engine seems to get hot real quick there is like smoke coming off the extractors near the head and the Radiator doesnt seem to build pressure. The hoses are squeezable. Did notice that the Radiator cap appears to be the wrong one. it has to be pushed down as the seal seems to tight to fit in the hole. Any ideas???

Thanks. Have decided to drain the Radiator and give the cooling system a bit of a flush out. So i will grab a new Thermostat while all that is going on.

If the old one proves to be faulty, then why not? Overcooling is not a performance enhancement.

Saying i dug it out of the long grass was just saying it hasn't been touched for some time. It is a good car quick and economical with lots of good gear on it. Therefore we are happy to spend money on it to get it running like it was when it got put aside. Thanks for all ya help peoples.

Always run a thermostat or a restrictor to provide block pressure, performance engines usually run between 25 and 30 psi block presure. without a restrictor you will be relying on the rad cap to provide the pressure and its not enough!
BTW. engine coolant actually makes the engine run hotter as it doesnt transfer the heat as quick as plain water, or even better run "water wetter". I always just run corrosion inhibitor for corrosion protection without the ethelene glycol.
