#1 Megasquirt users - I have some questions
1200GXman Posted on: 2009/7/8 8:21
Hi all
I played around on the internet looking for engine management systems and decided after reading about megasquirt on this site to investigate. Just some questions:
1. How much does it cost?
2. How difficult is it to wire and connect?
3. Software - How difficult/user friendly is the software?

Answers in the Datsun1200.com Tech wiki: MegaSquirt

It's around $200 for the controller. More or less.

It is about $200 American. I payed about $450 for mine here in Aus. I bought it from www.diyautotune.com
I highly recommend buying the megastim to aid in construction. It took me 6 hours straight to construct. I am average at soldering, so I found it quite fun. It is easy to connect if you have the patience to read the site and are willing to learn and understand the instructions. It took me 2 weeks to get the hang of it, I use it in my daily driver so I had it in on the weekend and was tuning it on the way to work through the week. 3 months on I am quite adept at the software.

If you can do basic wiring then MS is relatively easy, Just as long as you read the instructions on the site, also you need to make sure that you set the MS up for the way you are using. Dizzy setup, Trigger wheel, EDIS. I am using EDIS, I bought the kit from ebay for about $150 AUS. Wired it up as it says on the site. But if you arent electrically minded then you will find it hard!!

The software that I use is Tunerstudio from http://www.efianalytics.com/TunerStudio/
I found it much easier to use with the megasquirt.

We're using it for our supercharged mx-5 at the moment and it's totally freakin' awesome, launch control, rev limiters i love it. Dropped our (non charged) 0-100klm time from 9.6 to 8.1 seconds. Definately a good buy.Ty
