I had no drama's with monotorque either.

Although I'd be suspect on any inexpensive gasket when a boosted engine is involved.

Depends on the type of Monotorque. Their web site says the have a "full range" of gaskets and provide different type os head gaskets.

The kind with silicon imprints on one side are they only kind I've ever had problems with. A cheap Japanese gasket works better than those.

A12 gaskets for 1971-1973 Datsun 1200 do not need to let the oil flow around the head bolt at the gasket level. There is a drilled passage that bypasses that. Newer engine will need gasket clearance there however.

i have already returned the gasket and will be talking with the ACL rep on monday. yes ACL has gone into liquidation so dunno how far im gonna get. the silicon is supposed to close up against the aluminium, dunno why but it is. these gaskets have the small copper ring in place for where the early A12s had the oiling hole but they dont have any clearance around the bolt where the later motors had oiling past the head bolt. ive always run monotorque gaskets on all my other cars (even a gemmy with 11.5:1 commpression) and i have never had a problem. unless this has just come from a dodgy batch which is likely just be aware and dont have the same problems as me.

chris a monotorque will be fine on such a low boost situation, if i was running 8psi and up i would be weary

and ddgonzal they only supply one type of monotorque for an a series

doesnt matter which side the elastomer is on
on some v8s they are on opposite sides, so long as "front" goes to the front theyre cool

I've never had a problem with ACL gear and use it exclusively. though permaseal sort of gets a bad wrap from me possibly unfairly as the only one I did ever use , I installed the wrong way around and felt like a right spanner when coolant came pissing out all sides of the head when I went to fill it haha! ACL at least simplifies it for plebs like me by printing which side goes where on the gasket itself. even though hey say it's not necessary , I always back off all the bolts after 500kms and retorque to be on the safe side.

I use permaseal almost exclusively. And considering the price, and the abuse my engines get, they hold up pretty damn well.

The bolt hole should be the same size i think. its a thinner bolt that helps with oil feed.
