Converted, why dont you oragnise a day and see how much it actually cost's and see what it is like to recive negative comments about prices from dickheads that have no idea...

I dont know how is anyone lining there pockets if we dont even cover the cost of the track booking, or come out even which is what we are hoping for!

i guess you have already looked into the price we have paid for the day?

Ben,i would not normally comment on a subject like this, but to infer converted is a dickhead is a bit rough as i believe he's been involved in motor sport for years.
Based on my own knowledge in running events(cams)where insurance, safety areas, permits, paperwork, licenses etc.etc.the amount sounds about right but still on the high side.
Now reading between the lines none or very few of these normal requirments are to be required on this occasion.

As has been stated not even a fire extingusher is required...thats got to be asking for trouble and god help the person who's name appears on any documents should the worst happen to any poor sod on track,i only hope they have good lawyers.
As a bench mark i pay Queensland Raceway $80.00 for a 4 hour practice session on thier nominated days, this is run under AASA rules and regs and full safety gear is supplied(flags, ambo's etc)by the organisers and all cars must have all the right stuff on board also.

So let me just say,i don't think Willmington is doing you guys any favours if in fact he is pocketing the full $150.00 per car.
On the other hand,i don't have to run a V8 Falcon either.

End.

bert the only reason i referd to him as a dickhead was because I dont think it was necessary to make the comment that someone is lining their pockets out of this.

He had no idea how many cars we were allowing or the costs that we have already paid for the track.
It is a private booking for just us for the day.

also we are not doing this to make money
we just want to cover our costs.

this is the first time there for us and if we can do it better or cheaper next time we will.

he also has made previosly made comments about the cost of a track day i organised a few years back and we came out just even.so were'e the profit then.

If there is a chance that money is made at an event we would put it back into the next event anyway.

sure he may have been involved in motor sports for years...so what?
why doesnt he organise a track day and see how much he can do it for.
Im up for that !

The $50 dollar autosports day was a promotional day, cheap because it was subsidised by the track owner (ie get people onto a new track cheaply so they will go away and recommend it to friends - basically advertising).

Only one kilometer ? Wakefield is only 2k - perhaps we should all ditch Wakefield as well and only go to Phillip Island, because length obviously matters - especially when you're talking low-powered Datsuns. I love being able to cruise around a circuit absolutely flat out and hardly having to brake at all because my car is so underpowered.

Lining pockets ? Perhaps the owners of the circuit are lining their pockets. Or perhaps they are simply trying to recover some of the very large investment they have made, and have priced the circuit hire accordingly. Or do you have some inside info into their business plan ?

SDC trying to line its pockets ? Must be, or perhaps they are just trying to get enough entrants to cover their cost.

I'd also like to know where else I can get a track day for $150 that has less than 20 participants ?

Anyway, enjoy sitting at home on Sunday Mr Converted. I'm going to be out there, having a ball on a new (and by the looks of it, quite challenging) circuit in the company of a small but friendly group of Datsun enthusiasts who are prepared to try something new rather than just whinge about people who actually get out and do something.

Cheers

Well, since you are such a motorsport track day-organising veteran converted, you should really understand all this, but I will spell it out for you:

Costs

The track hire is $2800 for the day. That's what we pay Mr Willmington to hire the track on a Sunday for the whole day.

$2800/17 entrants = $164

So far the SDC will make a $14 loss for each entrant.

So for your fabled $40 track day, there would need to be at least 70 entrants just to break even

Track Time

Max group size on the track at once is 6 cars.
9am-5pm 30 mins lunch break, 1 hr to allow for session changes = 6.5 hrs track time

6.5 hrs / 3 groups = 2hrs 10 mins track time each

Your $40 track day, 70 entrants makes 12 groups

6.5 hrs / 12 groups = 32 mins track time

So converted, now that you have shown your ignorance of what's really involved in organising a day, instead of pissing on everyone's parade, how about you go back to your keyboard racing and leave this thread alone.

Bert:

The liability in this case is covered by MDTC insurance cover, part of the track hire fee.

Cheers for the last paragraph Turbovan, that will have me rest more comfortably tonight.
Have fun and all stay safe.

For what it's worth, one of my favourite tracks is Carnell Raceway at Stanthorpe Qld.and it's only 990 meters in length!

The SDC day was on a weekend - do weekend bookings possibly hike the price slightly compared to mid week bookings??

I attended (as a spectator - SOFT I know...) but have to say that the amount of track time enjoyed by all entrants definitely made the entry fee fair!

Hope to have a car ready in time for the next one!

Ben as i said not having a go at you personally Im sorry you took offence...i have done track days and corporate days in the past where we supplied the formula ford, entry fee was $150-ish ea with car supplied and catering and fuel and track hire...and that was a real race car...
Wakefield these days is a den of robbers and not that great-a-track.
My suggestion is goto a simple practice day or off street speed day at any of the tracks where the cost is $80.
Ive been to those days with a formula ford and 3 cars turned up...i did about 300-ish laps not bad bang for buck.
$150 you will do that a few times and due to lack of interest you will come up a negative in your bank balance im just trying to protect you from doing your dough...

If u made a profit this time thats great but you will get stung by the track if you do continue to do it. I applaud your organisation efforts to do this type of thing....just letting u know what you are up against....and that is cheap mid week track days where no one shows and u still pay $80.
