offset diff housing alignment problem?

So recently I have got some decent offset wheels, and it's showed up a problem on the 1200. On one side, the wheel is perfectly in line with the guard. However on the other side, it tucks in about 10mm. It's not as if someone has just bolted it on not quite square - the mounts must actually be crooked. I thought it was odd and was thinking about re-welding the mounts to make it square, but the I put the wheels on the kb10 and noticed the exact same thing! Has anyone ever encountered this before? And no, it's not the wheels haha.

Sounds like the axle tube was welded to the diff housing crookedly.

No, its not the bushings and theres no sway bars. Its on level ground - i'll get some photos up. Its not the wheels either, I simply meant that when I put wheels with good offset on the kb10 it showed the problem up on that too. I double checked the wheels to make sure it wasn't the problem. I think DD has it, but these are both stock diff housings. I'm just saying because it seems really odd! I doubt nissan would have been that careless when making the cars to weld it misaligned, surely they'd use a jig of some sort. Perhaps both cars have been in crashes that have twisted the springs or something like that?

I haven't tested it, but it would. These wheels are exactly the same offset, so it's not the wheels causing the problem. Its just that with wheels with less offset, the problem is less noticeable, which is why I haven't picked it up until now.

I know exactly what you are talking about.
Both my B110 4 doors have had the same issue, the gap is bigger on the right hand side than the left and with the car lowered right down both of them will rub the outside of the left rear on the inner guard.
I even had the SSS checked over a chassis plant with the technican measuring off various points with large calipors and it is definitely square. It just seems to be an oddity with the 1200's.
Cheers
Dave

I started reading this post wondering what Ianey was smoking.
I then went out to the 1200 coupe that i know for a fact is square and it has,nt been bent to have a measure of the area discussed only to find mine is also the same, with an 8mm smaller gap on the near side from wheel to guard.
Quite the conundrum this!Bet DD or Dodgy can,t answer this one!
It,s obviously been an engineering external body issue way back in the 70,s,still i know of other cars that are differant on both sides.

Mark this as never to be resolved..

What an oddity. I wonder if there is a reason for it, or if the original jig was carelessly made, or what. I guess the orignal wheels were tucked so far in the guards you could never tell. Looks like I'll have to re-weld the mounts or run some spacers on one side to make it match.
