I agree that an S2000 might be off topic for a Datsun sight. Here's some food for thought. I presently work @ a Honda dealership here in Canada. The S2000 has some pretty impressive stuff in it.They're hand built at the same plant as the NSX. 240bhp @ 9,000 rpms, is the most bhp per liter,(120bhp per litre) ever put out by a stock, normally aspirated passenger car engine. The 6 speed trans. is really special. The output shaft is not directly connected to the trans ouput. The output is underdriven to another shaft below it (which then connects to the driveshaft). This allows two large bearings to support power output @ the end of the extension housing. I think that it would be a great transmission to adapt to an A-series in a Datsun 1200, It's very light & would be very difficult to break, both drag racing & road racing. As far as Honda in general, The S2000 is the only fun car that they offer, Nissan has a much more youth/performance related product line. I may work on Honda's, but would much rather go for a drive in my 1200 coupe than anything honda sells right now.

HONDA [gag, choke]?? B..B..But it's not Datsun. Booooo Hissssss Lets face it blokes, for $70,000Au i think that many of us could make our little Datsun's perform well. Very bloody well. Perhaps if we regard these non Datsun cars as a rich source of parts for future conversions, then they may have some real value to us.
I'm sure that these Hon-whatchamacallits are very nice & go faster than i can drive, but are well out of my price range & must therefore be relegated to the "don't bother thinking about it" file. Chris

Hmm, I don't know why it is that the S2000 is the perenial favorite of auto journalists here in the states. They gush over the revvy motor and snick-snack 6spd, etc. Just keep the revs up, they say. The reality is it's a great track car. I just wouldn't want it as my daily driver, and neither would the auto journalists, too, I bet. Also, never understood the high price, either.

I would point more towards the Nissan 350Z or Z Roadster. The new VQ30 is a sweet thing indeed, and the chassis is so much better than the S2000 and will really give the GTR a run for its money (and Ima big fan of the GTR)...

It's actually a VQ35 not VG. Seems like a lot of money ($33,000US) for a S2000, although they are decent little things. I just saw a nice red used one for sale here in Japan for 1,250,000 Yen which is about $11,000 US...I guess the Japanese don't regard them as highly as other countries...and even for that price I'd rather have an S15 Silvia Spec R. As far as new Roadsters/convertibles go my vote goes with the new 350Z convertible and the new Mustang Cobra convertible. For the money and power output they're pretty much the best deal IMO. Later!

The one thing that impressed me most about the Honda S2000 at a recent club racing day, was that they had the full support of the dealership to run at Phillip Island!
One of the guys had a ECU problem with his car on the Sat test and tune day, called the Honda dealership - a Honda mechanic came down to the Island and fixed the problem (by replacing offending ECU) ALL under warranty.
I don't belive there is any other manufacturer around - at least not in Australia that will accept warranty returns on a car that has even had a sniff at a race track.
Good on you Honda - shame that Nissan still make better cars.
Exhibit A.....Datsun 1200!!!
