has anyone done it?

i know the consequences of the car rusting from the inside out and leftover chemicals eating the paint later down the track.....

but i cam across this site: http://www.redistrip.com.au/

and it seems pretty good to me....
i've looked at soda blasting and the variants and have been stripping the car with paint stripper and the poly-abrasive discs etc.... but have come across rust in between panels which is to hard to get to..

anyone know how much it costs?

thanks

Better give them a call....bit for from melb...reminds me a bit of the molasses dips people have used to eat all the rust of their cars, cheap but you need a big bath to do it.

sounds good to me...what would be good is after you done all the rust repairs is get the car dipped in paint to make sure the car wont rust by being painted everywhere, just a thought really mainly cause the new panels you can get are dipped hence the reason why they wont rust out

I can't speak for this specific firm, or what chemicals they might use, but of the small number of people I've known over the years who have tried it, they didn't like the result - had trouble with paint peeling in spots that seemed to re-occur long after they had re-sanded and prepped the area. If I was going to do something like that at all, I'd go with sandblasting personally.

do you know if they washed the car and let it completely dry first before re-rust proofing?

sorry for the late reply - yes they washed it, high pressure, you name it, and they also used various stuff (the second time around) like presol and god knows what, and it seemed nothing would get rid of the stuff - it 'hid' in creases and panel joins and kept leeching out so to speak. One of them had hopes of doing show car circuits and the experience almost drove him to self harm (no bull). I have NFI if there's been any advances in the chemicals used, or if some are safer than others, but given the reliable/predictable results of abrasive blasting, it's the way I'd personally go.

You could also just get a good quality polisher and sand the car with 80grit, take you a couple of days but slightly cheaper than sandblasting.

A polisher would be around $350, I imagine you'd burn $50 in sandpaper - and a couple of days of effort.

That's the way I'm going with a super rusty Torana I have in my front yard....
