I drove mine for the first time yesterday and was lucky to hit 4000rpm, yes tuning issues here aswell. It revs so nicely with no load!

What?.....

She's out of tune D, and has serious overlap so it's farting and cracking like you wouldn't believe. I need to get some cash together first before I take her to a rolling road to get it tuned properly. So in the meantime, I'm doing my best.

It actually sounds like a rallye car I experienced in Japan in 1998.
The car was the original Henri Toivonen lancia car he died in, bought
in an Auction and restored in Japan. The Bunny I was shagging went out
with this billionare businessman in love with Henri Toivonens and drove
this restored car on the streets for a hoot yet remained in contact
with her as she was also a car freak and infectious company.
I was invited to his car gallery/factory and I saw cars I cannot describe let
alone dream of affording. He also had a handful of engineers working for his
hobby while he worked as some kind of import/export Tycoon.
Here we are 1k fans trying to find funds to make our lil A series angry
and reliable where there are millionaires with more money than logic.
This guy went to a private Auction somewhere in Europe to buy this
wreck in order to restore it. Its cost something like 250,000 pounds
at the time and 500,000 usd to restore it so it doesnt surprise me
when he told me the police pulled him up and just wanted to take pictures
of themselves with the car and chat with him.
Japan is an Enigmatic place full of obsessive compulsive freaks not
dissimilar to our community I suppose :).

Interesting stuff, I still don't know what angle you're coming from, the internet is too vague to determine emotion/sarcasm/mood and what not. Anyhow, project closed for a couple of months while I bugger off to get some cash together, good-bye Adelaide.....hello tropics.

It'll be good to get home and spend some time on my other 1000.

Fair well and Merry Christmas to everyone.

For those who missed it.... turn the volume up:

Finally got the head rebuilt. Just waiting for some spare time to go in and collect the head shims.

Also rebuilt my carbs after a longish wait for the second gasket kit, never leave more than a week between disassembling and rebuilding these carbs!

Trying to get things together for the cruise this weekend but with everything else going on it isn't looking good. Still no brakes, no rego, no seats!!

I have a low comp head that I might attach to the motorbike carbs just to get the engine running again until I collect the shims.

Doooo it...
What are your thoughts on using the shims without a gasket in between head and shim? Im thinking I have a .8 shim for my L16, if i coat it with copper paint do you think it would seal? I have lapped block and head is machined nice and true...

Yeah Leigh, I'm following your thread, note the similarities between your manifold(s) & mine? Did Simon make yours too?

Sean what are you trying to achieve by running it on it's own? I reckon it would work, with the right compound adhesive/sealant.
