i have a dato 1000 with stock breaks and i was just wondering how would i be able to get a disc frotnt end on it, wot car would i get the breaks from? thanx

Breaks is what a stick does if you bend it too far.
BRAKES are what you use to stop your car.

I ran correctly adjusted & fully servicable drum brakes on my 5 speed with improved 1200GX powered '68 sedan for hundreds of thoudands of miles, & by using a sensible driving technique. I never ever had a problem, but the hydraulics were fully overhauled before i was game to trust them 100%

I know this may start some arguments. basically have you adjusted your brakes and bled the system? I have found after adjusting and bleeding that my brakes were as good at stopping as the powered assisted disc in my HK. If your after an easier pedal you'll need to fit a brake booster to help reduce pedal pressure. the twin slave cylinder design is easily sufficient to stop most 1000's including some with a15 turbo's!

my drums are really S*%T house, i am uprading to modded sunny struts with magna rotors, commo calipers etc..... in next 2 weeks

i will never do up motor on any of my future cars without attending to the brakes first...... pure stupidity really with doing the motor first (i have seen the light lol) proably young lads biggest mistake when doing up there cars.......

i dont think i would ever stay with the (1200) drums, with a performance motor definately not with a A15T motor!, even if they were 100% perfect drums. i would hate to see my drums uner heavy braking sistuation and really wett codition (aka why i dont drive to much and not fast, only use ute for commuting to UNi)

does anyone know they the braking power and stopping figures for a standard 1200 at certain speeds? must bee some figures hidden in a old nissan/datsun store room

I was thinking of getting discs for the front of my 1000 wagon but I will how well my A12 with extractors etc will go....when I get one Maybe good drums will do..

Drums that are well set-up should stop that lightweight car just fine. But fade will be an issue if you ever drive it hard or take it to a track. Discs will probably be the best way to overcome that.

I understand completely that the stock set-up may work just fine, but I don't think you could make the case that it's a bad thing to have overkill in the braking department.
