Has anyone successfully installed the tacho from the 120Y coupe into the sedan? If so, how was it done and how much of a nightmare was it ?

the easiest way to do this would be to use the complete dash panel from the coupe, including the wiring loom.i haven't done this for a 120y,but have done this for 1200's & sunny's,& the wiring is always different.you should also be able to swap the original speedo in,if you want to keep the odometer reading the same, say for rego purposes.

Thanks for that.... I guess the first step (and the most obvious) is to get the backs of a sedan and coupe dash and see the differences.

installing the factory tacho in the factory position where the clock is is straight forward. it screws in the same way as the clock.
The only pain is on the 120y most of the dash has to come appart for this to be done.

as for wiring the tacho, nissan made this very easy. they all have the same wiring loom and if you look behind where the clock/tacho is positioned, on the big thick wiring loom you will see part which has been taped in blue or it could be white ( I forget) undo this tape and you will see one wire with a connector in it. dissconnect this and connect it to the tacho. as for tacho dash lights , it uses the same as the clock.

Cheers Steve.

That's great, thanks Steve... you talk as if you have done this before. Now all I need to find out is how much heartache I have to go through to get the dash out !!!

dont expect your dash to survive in one piece... I know mine didnt, it will crack, break or you will just lose screws. Dont let that stop you tho...

yeah like holeshot metioned there is also a wire from the tacho to the back of the speedo, it is the 12 volt supply when the key is in the on position. and from memory the tacho gets earth through its mounting to the dash.

cheers steve
