No not yet, I have some jet drill bits here that I might try out. I'm surprised why you think the mains jets would affect the idle. At the moment I'm having enough difficulty just trying to get it to idle smoothly, and smooth acceleration from there upward is difficult to acquire so I'm more inclined to muck around with the pilots jets. There are built-in pilot holes (forgot what they're called) that I think are blocked or something. I'll try a few things first.

If it doesn't get any better I'm going to pull them down and check them again (the carbs).

they are "Mikuni 34mm BS34 Carburetors" I think, I like the look of them might look up my local kawazaki wrecker.

USD$22.50 each delivered.

There is a slight step from stack to carb mouth. I'll need to carefully file the carb mouth and smooth out the step (definitely wash and clean the carbs after that!) they weren't specific to this carb, note the tiny overlap between the pairs. I think they were AU$104.00 delivered.

I got my last pair for 120 in dirty condition and a better pair

They were cheap, put it that way. But I think bike carbs are in general, considering you get a setup that has a vacuum reference for dizzie & balancing, built in linkages, built in fuel rail, choke, etc etc bike carbs are the way forward for those on a budget.

Plus there is a stack of spares and FRP parts available. What more could you ask for?

You running the 40s now? bugger me!!! They seem to idle well... anything else done?
I wonder how different it is that late carbs have plastic sliding pistons rather than alloy?
I suppose they are easier to buy as replacements since they are newer.

Um? I'm running the Twin 40 Mikuni PHH. Just bought another brand new set of carbs with the plastic slides.

Still need to road tune the carbs and then I'm sorted.
