Im really not happy with the locks on the car at the moment ... The key is lose in the barrel (boot, ign and door) and im having troubles getting someone to cut me another key ... Not to mention the fact that sure you could get in without too many issues at all.

Any ideas where i can get a set from? I've seen heaps on ebay will they suit the 1k (are they any good)?

Did the 1k's have a lock on the fuel lid?

Most of the 1k come with fuel flap locks, while a few didnt. Dont know why. Maybe a dealer option thing.

As for getting new locks.
If you want new old stock, yahoo japan would be your best bet.

Trouble is, everything with these cars are 30 years+ old now. All the locks on everything are worn, and finding blanks for the 1k keys can be troublesome.

If you are happy with aftermarket setups, then just go to your local locksmith and they will have something to suit.

As for the fleabay stuff, unless its coming from Japan, its likly to be a chinese copy, and quality then becomes an issue. Maybe good, maybe not.

Hey Hamza,

I get my keys cut here for about $6.50. If you're really having trouble send a spare down to me and I can get it cut for you. I've just replaced my key and altough it is the slightest bit notchy in the ignition barrel, I can certainly say it's pretty good now.

My old key used to fall out of the barrel mid-drive.......take about loose!

a competent locksmith can rebuild the barrel, change it to match a key or other barrels
or make a key from scratch without the orig just the barrel.

Alternatively if you love your car and you should as there is nothing like them and
the next small cheap car is double the price (hyundai Getz) so not losing money in upgrades.
You could look into getting a good alarm system with no door locks so youll need a good
battery and a line under the car in case you need auxilary power (battery malfunction is
very rare though) and also you can do a push button ignition with a hidden kill switch or
latest hi tech keyless ignition. Also a release mechanism on the boot from a Camira
(very easy to setup a button to activate it. I had most of the mentioned done to a 3TGE TA28 Celica 8 years ago with an AGM battery and never had an issue apart from missing it once I sold it. You could also start and warm up the car from the alarm system from 30-50 metres away.

Or you could just find a distributor of "Nice Products" and buy some new ones
They list the door locks as same as 1200 and just about every other Dat build before about 1984... ignition too... but I thought 1200 was column lock so that listing is probably wrong

But you could check out their door locks anyway... and maybe just buy a universal ignition one from the Hella or Narva catalogue

Most likely the key is simply worn, and the lock barrel is not worn out. They were designed to wear the brass plated key, and not the lock.

A new key copy will be better, but a new key cut from the lock code will be like new. Original keys have a 4-digit code on them, which may also be stamped on the ignition switch. A superb locksmith can recreated the code without the code number, just by examining the key.

Your 1000 has a dashboard-mounted ignition switch, not a column-lock unit, right?

Open in new window

1200 STD ignition switch
(1000 switch is similar, but with different key shape)

Nissan part numbers for Datsun 1000:
* 25150-10600 COMP.-SWITCH, ignition & starter ALL (ex. Coupe)
* 25150-80001 COMP.-SWITCH, ignition & starter ALL (ex. Coupe)
- from C/# B10-017001, VB10-016001
* 25150-H0100 COMP.-SWITCH, ignition & starter (op.) ALL (ex. Coupe)
* 25150-25700 COMP.-SWITCH, ignition & starter Coupe
* 25150-H0300 COMP.-SWITCH, ignition & starter (op.) Coupe
