I have 1200 ute that is almost ready for a new engine.

For a start is the z18 turbo legal? And if so does it fit without
moving tunnel/firewall?

Yes The Z18 fits well, but it's an 'old' engine and I'd be concerned about getting parts. It's a SOHC engine. Also the 8 spark plugs can get expensive to replace. I think
these are the main reasons to go with the Ca18DET.
I've seen many utes with the Z18T installed. I've not looked closely at the install, to be able tell you what's involved.
But in most states I would say the Z18T is legal.
