G'day, thought some of you may be interested in my build
Since buying it I've done;
installed PIGDOG's old L18 stroker setup with stumpy box
Coil over conversion at the front with Mk1 Golf inserts
Camber plates
CA18 brake conversion
All new bushes etc
Roll cage and race seats
JTS rear springs
15x8's with Kuhmo semis
Flares
H190 4.6 diff to go in still

I'm going for a track style street car, hope you like
My old A14 set up is for sale too. Cheers

Nice work Brendon, the 'L' looks to be sitting very nicely in the bay! How did u go with the tunnel? Use the BFH tool much?

wheels are Sportmax 15x8 0 offset, they could fit with pumped guards but easy with flares. Offset is perfect all round.

G'day Matt, my mate offered to help with the L18 install last week, it went in pretty well, we needed to massage the tunnel a bit, it is a tight fit but should be fine.

Just got to sort out the clutch set up, wiring, tail shaft, fuel system, mount radiator / hoses and exhaust.

I'll tackle one job at a time

With the coilovers what insert did you end up using? How much did you cut out of the strut, and did you use spacers in the bottom? Also with the 15" sportmaxx's will your coilovers allow you to tuck the tyres, as in height wise?
Im doing this conversion at the moment, just wanna get as much experience and input as i can before i go ahead and chop it!

Hi,
This is a car i have spent a lot of time on over the last25 years and it looks the best it ever has. It was my girlfriends dads car who fitted the GX engine after i fitted mine when they were readily available in the 80"s. Originally Spraycrest Green, a mate of mine brought it from the girlfriends dad and kept it for many years before selling to his brother in law and then getting it back for a few more years. It has been painted group A Commodore Permanent red before its last repaint in the Orange colour. A great car with many happy memories attached. Good luck and keep up the great work.. I was there when it was taken to the transporter to be sent to you..

engine looks right at home in there

have you tried fitting the tailshaft that was with it to see if it would work with your diff?
and the box fitted in without much work to the tunnel? and did you get the gearox crossmember to work?

what sorta exhaust are you planning on running on it?

oh and the filters look like they need another clean

Tail shaft is too short for the 120Y BW diff in there, the pcd of the flange doesn't fit the diff anyway.
I don't know whether I should chuck the H190 I got in now as I'll have to get the tailshaft done again when I do, but then i'll have to sort a hydraulic hand brake out and probably should get the diff freshened up with new seals etc and the calipers rebuilt which will delay and add costs.

The tunnel is tight, there's two places where there's about 10mm clearence, we'll see what happens when it runs I guess.

The box xmember, I decided to use square bar and sandwich plate bolted it to the floor with a 10mm urethane bush to limit movement. If it doesn't work I'll do your idea of welding the 180B mounts to the floor.

Exhaust, not sure, I'm thinking 2.5 inch with two mufflers

Oh, the coil over conversion, I chopped 75mm off the strut,
I cut the strut top off 50mm down, then took the 75mm off what was left. Then weld the 50mm top threaded part back on, this way the coilover collar goes over the weld join to add strength. I then used a 25mm spacer inside the strut as the Mk1 golf Pedders inserts are 100mm shorter than stock.
This is all with 120Y struts (45mm type)as I used the Kev Rowley CA18 250mm brake adapter.
I also used the otomoto 45mm coilover kit with the 4kg springs.
The ride quality is perfect, not harsh but still handles and turns in awesome mated to the otomoto universal camber plates. I've got the height set just above halfway on the threaded collar, it could come down another 40mm odd before the spring seat would start to get close to the tyre.
I also had made 32mm bump steer plates to get the stock angle back on the lower control arms, makes a big difference I reckon.

Jakesunny, I'm selling the A14, is it a GX import motor?
Are you able to fill us in on anymore specs or history on the motor?

Cheers

thats a great motor... by far the best L series i have ever seen personally. i could no way afford it, and it would be a waste on LPG.

25years of building and with history. great car need more pics and details.
