i dont quite understand what you mean about the "squish area" and loss of power, i am using forced industion (turbo) so want slightly lower compression

i am sending an exhaust manifold to finland and thats about $100 postage, so hopefully i can find a head here

im not sure how much i want to lower compression either is there any calculations or anything to guide me, i want it to still have good power off boost, and am not too worried about achieving maximum power on boost, will a c/r of 8:1 be terrible to drive off boost on an injected a-15 do you think

thanks heaps for your info

[edit] what would the compression ratio be on an a-15 with stock pistons and 37cc chambers???, still 8:1 or not?, thanks again

The "squish area" is the area between the piston and the cilinder head when the piston is at TDC, the squish area is meant to be as small as possible, it pushes the fuel air mixture towards the sparkplug and gives better combustion. If you are using really big amounts of boost you can

sounds awesome, im loving the idea now!!!

i understand what you mean i was just thnking that you need a bigger area to get lower compression, unless the pistons are concave i guess but that is still basically the same effect, thanks heaps for the info,

the exhaust is a GX one

what do you think of only having a 2inch exhaust??? is it too small, do i need to upgrade?, id like 200hp aswell but more likely 170-180 at flywheel

i was going to use 7psi (.5bar) at first and go upto 10psi later, then see what happens from there

You can get a shim for less than that.
its an off the shelf item (ACL) I think .

i was told they were over $200 but?, i would think a head change would be more reliable too? what do you think?, what sort of boost could you run with a shim?, i think the stock head gasket would be limited to about 10psi

otherwise you need a copper gasket, im not sure this is what i've been told, can anyone clarify this info

whats the diffrence between a shim and copper gasket? ect ect

cheers

i dont really know what hp i will get till i build it i guess, thanks for the honest opion, i dont want to get my hopes too high

my guess was 170-180 hp with 10psi and c/r of 9.5, but i was just pulling a number out of the air really i didnt know,

i checked out your site, it looks pretty cool, im impressed with the twin carbie setup too, how do you run such high boost and not blow the seals on the carby???, im still reading the text on your site

good on ya mate!

have you done anymore 1/4 mile drags???
love to hear of a better result

good luck with it, i think an intercooler would make a huge improvement, but maybe you have done that by now?

you've helped heaps, but its gonna be longer before mine is running now cause it looks like ill be doing a head swap

so my aim will be an a15 block with a14 oval port head (low compression) and i will then have a compression ratio of 8.0:1

and with that compression i will still have good power off-boost and the car will be very "drivable" as a road car

After the dragrace I took the engine apart to see if anything was damaged and that was 1.5 years ago, now my new engine and enginesetup is ready for the dyno but I will wait for summer!! What time is it in Australia now?? Here the clock is 10:10 am.......

Good luck with your project!!
