Friday night I was driving on the motorway going 100 kms/hr, it was raining and the wind is very strong that night after a few minutes driving the car is loosing power my speed went down to 80 kms/hr then I reached my exit and stop at the traffic lights and guess what my engine stopped! 2-3 kms to my destination place.
Tried starting it wont start just cranking... so put my hazards lights on, tried starting it again after 20mins and it started, idles fine but when I put it in drive or reverse engine stalls like its drowning from petrol same as applying the accelerator pedal. Anyway I called RACQ & after 1 1/2 hours the tow truck came and towed my car.
Next morning the car is fine... drives normally I'm guesing water/moist went in the dizzy?

like dd said, it sounds like a fuel starvation problem. Same sort of thing happened to a mate of mine. Ended up being crap in the jets, but worked its way out after a while.

I would check fuel filter, fuel pump even, and carby jets.

Also on the point of the fuel filter, since its such a cheap, disposable product i would just go and purchase a brand new one... couldnt hurt

yes it is a stock hitachi carb, but I had it re-kitted last year, checked also if the choke was stuck closed and its not as I had this problem before too.

I think that there is probably nothing wrong with your fuel system. If there was, you would still have the problem the next day.

I think that you are on the right track with wet electrics.
When the engine was re-started & idling, the voltage required to fire the plugs is the lowest that is needed in normal operation. I suspect that the insulation resistance was just enough to let it run.

Once you apply a load, the compression pressures rise & the voltage needs also rise. I would not be at all surprised if the wet ignition was not able to hold the new slightly increased voltage in, & the engine dies. Giving it a footfull just makes it worse. Next day, & the ignition has had a chance to dry out a bit & everything is fine.

If this does prove to be the problem, the fix is fairly simple, even if it does cost a few dollars. Have a real good critical look at the rotor button, distributor cap, plug leads & plugs. If any of them are not 100%, then just replace them. Nice new parts will provide a level of moisture protection that 20 to 30 year old parts simply can not.

check the idle solenoid,it could be that the electrical connection to it is fraying,& the wet weather could have caused it to stop working.this'll cause the car to stop running at idle,& could be worth a look.it's the hex shaped fitting coming out the side of the carby next to the fuel bowl,& should have an electrical connection with a bullet connector.
